Obituary For Thomas "Tommy" George Terry

Age 77, of Dartmouth, passed away on November 1, 2017. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late William and Margaret (O'Brien) Terry. Tommy worked a Moosehead Breweries for over 25 years. He had a strong passion for carpentry and built over 8 houses. He was also a crafsman and built Victorian sleighs, rocking horses and boats. In his younger years he was involved in small engine repair and welding. He loved science and nature and enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, and fishing. We enjoyed maple syrup that he would tap from the trees in his backyard. He was a kind-hearted gentleman who would help those in need. He had a great sense of humour and he could easiliy make everyone laugh. He was very sociable in his need to know those around him. He also was very opinionated and loved to prove his point in great detail. He enjoyed music of all genres from piano to rock and roll; the better the beat, the louder the song. He loved his family and enjoyed gatherings with his brothers and sisters, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren. He became a father figure to his grandson and took him fishing, skating, swimming and out to breakfasts and dinners. He would attend all of his grandsons recitals and concerts. Throughout life he suffered from mental illness. In his later years, misunderstood aspects of his mental illness caused both him and his immediate family great heartache. We have loved you always and will love you forever. We pray that you have finally found peace. He is survived by his wife Marlene (separated), Dartmouth; children, Cathy (Rob) Stewiacke; Heather, Dartmuth; granddaughter, Megan; grandson, Evan; brothers, Patrick (Diane), Cole Harbour; John "Sonny" (Dot), Lawrencetown; Gary, Dartmouth; sisters, Wendy, Dartmouth; Donna (Dave), Porters Lake; Colleen (Doug), Ship Harbour; Carol Ann, Halifax; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Mary. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care nurses and doctors, VON, paramedics. With special thanks to Ann his caregiver in his final weeks. There will be a Celebration of his Life on November 10th at 11:00 AM in Donald K. Walker Funeral Home, Prince Albert Road, Dartmouth.
