Obituary For Cheryl Ann (Cuvelier) Perrin

Cheryl Perrin lived a life filled with love.

Born in Halifax, Cheryl was the daughter of Annabel (MacIsaac-Cuvelier) McNeil and Fred Cuvelier. With help in later years from her step-father Daniel McNeil, Cheryl’s adoring mother taught her what it meant to be a strong woman and instilled in her the importance of kindness, compassion and grace—qualities that would define the woman she became and touch the lives of all who knew her.

In 1960, Cheryl met the love of her life, Jim. She was the beautiful, popular cheerleader and he was tall, dark and handsome – it was a match made in heaven. Through 51 years of marriage they would work side-by-side to build a life together. And what a life it was ultimately leading to their dream retirement home on the lake in Bedford. Professionally, Cheryl’s keen eye for business (and ability to make everyone she met love her) served her well in her career as a District Sales Manager for Avon Canada—but it was her love of dogs and music that fed her soul. For many years she brought happiness to residents of hospitals and nursing homes across the city by sharing her deep and abiding passion for dogs through performances with the Halifax Kennel Club drill team. And as a music lover, she took great joy in performing as part of the New Players Choral Society and the St. Ignatius Choir Group.

But while all of these things were important to her, there was nothing in life that Cheryl cared more about than her family. A devoted wife and mother, Cheryl’s love for her husband and sons, Jim Jr. and Chris, knew no bounds. As her sons began families of their own, Cheryl’s incredible capacity for kindness and affection would grow to include her daughters-in-law, Debbie (Jim) and Jaime (Chris), and the lights of her life, her grandchildren Caroline, Kathleen, Christina and Sean. To each of them Cheryl gave the incredible gift of a kind heart and through them she will continue to bring love and laughter to the world.

In addition to her immediate family, Cheryl is survived by her sister, Cathy Brown (Kingsley), brother, Dan McNeil Jr (Josefina), her beloved uncle Jim and the entire Cuvelier family who were such an integral part of her entire life.

A funeral mass celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16 at St. Ignatius Church in Bedford. A reception will follow in the church hall. Donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA (spcans.ca).
