Obituary For Chester Guy King

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Chester Guy KING, age 64. After his final and most courageous battle, Chester passed peacefully at home with his loved ones by his side on Thursday April 11, 2019. Not a day went by where you wouldn’t hear Chester describe every day as a gift, full of sunshine and endless possibilities. He lived as one could only dream. Chester is predeceased by his father Guy King, his sister Glenys King and brother-in-law John Hanley. He is survived by his mother Mary King, wife Deborah Henley and two step-daughters Laura and Callie Bullock; his daughters Stephanie (Bear) Swain and Angela (Gordon) Hire and their mother Dawn LeGrow. He will be forever loved and missed by his grandchildren whom taught him as much as he taught them; Creighton, Lola Love, Sephora, Hawksley and step-granddaughter Cadence. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Winnie Hanley, Len (Sally) King, Lois (Gary) Ford, Scott (Gina) King, David (Elaine) King, many nieces and nephews, and his life long time friend Joe LeGrow. He served our country for 27 years with the Canadian Navy, after retiring he went on to work for Dalhousie University as a Naval Engineering Instructor. The last 15 years Chester had worked for Weir Marine Engineering in the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE) building ever lasting relationships with his colleagues. Chester travelled extensively over the years but ‘home is where the heart is’ and his belonged in Bauline, NL, where every sunset warmed his soul. Growing up he learned to farm and fish from his father, but his compassion for others he inherited from his mother. Chester was warm, fun loving and had a real knack for storytelling. Chester enjoyed sailing and riding his motorcycle with his best friend and brother-in-law Gary Ford. His Saturday mornings included breakfast with good friends; Ernie, Joe, Alain, and Gary. Special thanks to the many friends and family who helped and supported Chester on his journey. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Home. Committal of ashes at sea to take place at a later date. Visitation will take place Monday April 15th from 7 to 9 PM at Bedford United Church, 1200 Bedford Highway, Bedford NS where the funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 16th at 2 PM with Rev. Katie Aven officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Bedford United Church, Canadian Cancer Society, Hope Cottage or charity of choice. Family flowers only please. “Live long and prosper” - Spock

Dear Debbie, Lois, Gary and Family, Elizabeth and I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences in the loss of Chester. Chester had a larger than life personality and would always engage you on all matters local, National or International. We always enjoyed our conversations and stories together. Chester had that ability to make you feel at home and welcome no matter where you were. He loved and cherished Bauline, the homestead, and that deck with the million dollar view. On the few occasions we visited, we knew there would be lots of laughs and great stories. I met Chester in HMCS SAGUENAY. I was a Junior Officer and he a seasoned Leading Seaman. Chester always had time to show me the finer points of seamanship and was very forgiving when I launched the whaler with 8 or so feet of air space below the whaler's keel. As part of the Ship's Diving team, we had great trips to Vieques Island in Puerto Rico. Our hearts are broken over Chester's passing. He will always be in our hearts and memories. We will cherish his friendship and love for life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire King family. Gary and Elizabeth Reddy
