Obituary For Doris Darer

Doris Darer, of Bedford, passed away on February 13, 2019 in the Halifax Infirmary with family and close friends surrounding her at 93 years of age. Born in 1925 in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Nancy Coughtrey. Doris grew up in London, England and vividly recalls the war breaking out in 1939. Doris saw life change forever; however, this was the first experience that built up her grit, determination and zest for life. In her youth, Doris loved to ball room dance, even medaling in competition at one time. At the age of 16, while working in a factory making airplane parts, Doris met her late husband, Roy Darer. Roy was called to war soon after their wedding. After the war, they decided to emigrate from England, and came to Canada. After living in Canada for 20 years, they moved back to England briefly, and then came back to Nova Scotia where they settled into retirement and grand-parenting. Doris loved to knit, and her craft resulted in exceptionally beautiful knits cherished by many. Doris loved spending time with friends and family, enjoying a lovely cuppa or a nicely chilled glass of Pinot Grigio. Doris will be sadly missed by Son, John Darer and Daughter Sharon (Derek) Cornock both of England, Son-in-Law Sergei Chernenko of Dartmouth, along with her many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her Daughter, Jacqueline Rickett. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Atlantic Region. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of QEII Health Sciences Center and all the staff of Northwood Ivany House, in the MayFlower Unit. Online condolences at donaldkwalker.ca
