Obituary For Emdon "Skip" Maurice Horton

Horton, Emdon Maurice “Skip” Age 78 of Williamswood, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 17,2019 surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Halifax NS, he was the son of the late E.C. Horton (Shorty) and Cora (Trueman) Horton. He was the last surviving member of the immediate family. Once Skip retired from Eastlink he found more time to hunt and fish. Skip was most often found out in the garage where friends gathered or at the ball field. Skip will be missed by his good friend Clyde Gray who spent many years hunting and fishing at the lake, and long time friend Billy Smith. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian (Smith). Daughters, Janet (Tony) Cox, Quispamsis NB, Kimberley, Rothesay, NB, and Son Stephen (Genine), Sambro, NS. Four Grandsons: Mason, Chris, Connor and Zachary. Predeceased by grandchildren Caleb and Hope Horton and brother Bob Horton. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the QEII 8.2, Closing The Gap Home Care, VON and the palliative care team for all the support Skip received at home, where he wanted to be. A celebration of Skip’s life will take place at St. James United Church, Sambro NS, on Saturday February 23, 2019 at 2pm, reception to follow in church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Church 3811 Old Sambro Rd. Sambro, NS B3V 1G2 or to the Canadian Red Cross.     Dear Vivian & Family, My sincere condolence to you. Skip made a positive difference in my teaching career by giving me my first teaching position in Sambro and for that I will be forever grateful. Know that he will be forever remembered as a man of action who served his community well. May you have peace of mind and find comfort in each other.     Vivian & Family, please accept our condolences on Skip's death. I remember when he used to come have tea with Mom whenever he was in Sydney, back in the day.     Sending our condolences to Skip's family. Farewell to the wonderful man who brought baseball to Sambro - Skip set the bar pretty high for community service and friendship and he was so deserving of the Sambro Spirit Award he received just 2 short years ago.
