Obituary For Jane Lee Westropp

Died peacefully in her sleep after a very short illness. She was the daughter of Brigadier Harold Griffin and Reta Griffin (Farrer). Born in Montreal of Nova Scotian parents, she spent most of her life in Halifax. Educated at Halifax Ladies College and QEH, Jane went on to Dalhousie University where she acquired a B.A. and then on to McGill for a B.Ed. and later in life to Mount Saint Vincent for an M.Ed. As a teenager, she was an extremely competent equestrian specializing in dressage and in her younger days was a keen skier. After graduating, she taught in the Halifax school system and in Montreal at the Trafalgar School for Girls. In 1966, she married a young naval officer, Charles Westropp. Most of their postings were in Halifax, but they also lived in Toronto and Kingston, Ont. Jane was a deeply religious woman and worshipped at St.George's Round Church. She is survived by husband Charles and children Amos married to Christy (Kitchen), and Rachel; and grandchildren, Hayden, Mya, Ethan, Sophie and Eva. After Charles retired they remained in Halifax, spending most of their summers on boats on the south shore frequently sailing to the Bras d'Or Lakes. Jane was predeceased by her parents and an older brother, Daniel who sadly died at an early age. Charles, the children and grandchildren will greatly miss her. A memorial serice will be held at the end of June next year when the clan will all gather in Halifax. Cremation under the care of Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors Ltd.
