Obituary For Joshua "Josh" Jerome Gibson-Skeir

Obituary Joshua Jerome (Josh) Gibson-Skeir Sunrise: February 1, 2000 – Sunset: January 31, 2020

SKEIR, GIBSON- Joshua Jerome “Josh” – age 19 of East Preston passed away suddenly on Friday January 31, 2020 (2 hours before his 20th birthday) in Toronto, Ontario.

Born in Halifax, he is the son of Alexa Skeir-Glasgow and father, Joseph Glasgow. Josh was a member of East Preston United Baptist Church. He was a former student of Auburn High, Cole Harbour and Saint Edmund Campion High, Brampton, Ontario. During his school years Josh enjoyed playing basketball, football and played on teams in school and recreation. He also was a member of the Preston RCMP Stetsons & Spurs Youth Program and the church’s SOS program. Growing up, Josh was a very pleasant and outgoing young boy. He was given the nickname “Joshy Squashy”. Josh is survived by his sisters, Shannon (Kerry) Colley-Brantley, South Carolina; Shernera Colley, and Shyla (Maxroy) Colley, Brampton, Ont.; and a sister he recently come to know, Lexi Pittman, Sackville, N.S. Brother, Owen Skeir, Manitoba. Other family members, Valerie Gibson and Barbara Borden, grandmothers. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and Godmother, Juanita Smith. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Rev. Dr. Donald & Evelina Skeir, and Ross Clinton Gibson.

Funeral service will take place at East Preston United Baptist Church on Saturday February 15, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Dr. Joyce Ross Officiating, assisted by Pastor Matthew Thomas. There will be no burial, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the East Preston United Baptist Church, Building for God Fund.

    Only if someone would have guided this young man away from the gangster lifestyle he so cherished , maybe he would still be with us today

    I remember Josh coming to school with a big smile and lots of enthusiasm. Josh loved music and dancing. I will always treasure the many times he tried to teach me his dance steps.

    I am so so sorry to hear that another one of our young men has gone too soon. My heart goes out to all of you, especially the mothers. May God give you the strength to surpass all of this. As a mother who has been thru this, I feel your pain. My deepest and sincerest condolences.
