DAY, RICHARD SELDON, age 58 of Upper Rawdon, NS passed away on May 26, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. Richard was born in Dartmouth, NS on December 6, 1961. He was the beloved son of the late Hazen S. Day and the late Edna W. (Fonce) Day.

Richard was a family man first. He was the happiest with his wife, Nancy and his children, Andrew, Ryan & Laura. He was so proud of the amazing young adults that had become and constantly bragged about each of them. He loved his home in Upper Rawdon and spending time at his cottage at Jackson Point, NS with family and friends. He had a passion for cars to which he made into a career that he loved as an auto technician for 38 years. He earned many awards and achievements over his career including; graduating with honours and top of his class in 1982, won many Master and Grand Master Technician awards with GM Canada and Subaru Canada, and represented Subaru Canada at the World Grand Master Technician in Japan. He started his career with Bob McDonald’s Chev Olds and worked the past 14 years as a fleet technician with HRM Emergency Fleet Services with the Halifax Regional Police Department. He loved his 1954 Chev Pickup and enjoyed many hours proudly cruising in it and attending many cars shows where we met some amazing friends. His kindness and love of life brightened the lives of everyone he met.

Richard will be sadly missed by his wife of 31 years, Nancy (Cluett) Day, and children; Andrew (Nicole) Cluett, of Gore, NS, Ryan (Chelsea Aulenback) Day of Halifax and Laura Day of Halifax. For Nancy ,Andrew, Laura and Ryan and his many other family ,and friends I send you my condolences and a big virtual hug. Like many I was very lucky and proud to have met Richard. When he was the master tech at Subaru I was just out of trade school and had started working with Richard and Andrew. Richard was always one to have something funny ,witty and informative to say or share no matter the situation.Always had many nice things to share and talk about family wise. A great man and mentor. For an apprentice just getting into the trade it was a very nice place to be.You just wanted to be a sponge for all the info and tips in the work day he and the other great guys would have to share. Serious and humor wise , I would not meet another master tech like Richard on my way to being a red Seal.I feel lucky to have been there at that time. Many years later Richard and I would cross paths a bit.It could entering leaving the same local stores or the gas station,or seeing each other on the morning commutes. He was always proud of his family and their needs 1st and his enjoyment of cars close 2nd. No matter where or when you met Rich he always took the time for you.It may be to, catch up with local events, insight on house repair or a tough time when a family member is not doing well. He cared. I was very sad when I had learned his health battle the past few years through friends. He taught and accepted so many people on his journey.I feel fortunate of the times working and speaking with Richard. His inclusive, caring spirit and drive lives on in many of us.His lesson to me was from day 1 do not give up on a task, if it was made by someone it can be repaired. He will be missed by all. Thank you Richard.

My condolences to the family and friends of Richard's. I had the honor of meeting Richard 16 years ago when I first became an apprentice at Dexter's Subaru. I was placed with him to learn the ins and outs of automotive trade. Richard taught me many great skills that I still apply to this day. I spoke often of Richard especially many years later when I became a red seal technician, while training new apprentices in the trade. I still remember and laugh at how he used to send me on a coffee run and then use his IR thermometer to tell me I had to go back and get another one because it was .25 degrees too cold, that little smile he did always made me laugh. Richard inspired me to strive to be the best I can and always put the customer first. Thank you Richard. I will always speak of you as one of best mentors I had in my career. You were a gifted technician and a great man.

To Richard's family and friends I met Richard when he joined the Halifax Regional Police fleet maintenance staff. He was a great guy, polite , professional and he was accepted into our Police family from day one. It didn't matter if I was driving one of the cruisers or my Harley, he always was willing to get my problem solved . Richard brought his passion to work every day, and he was a true team player that was sorely missed when his illness sidelined him. Thank you for sharing his life with our Police Family Sincerely Michael P. Spearns Sgt Ret'd HRP
