Obituary For Robert Charles Whorrall

Whorrall, Robert Charles, 75 years of age, Halifax, NS passed August 9th, 2019 – Robert “Bob” son from the late Lewis Charles Whorrall and Aspell Kewley. Bob met his soulmate, Nancy A. Jones, when he was just 18 years old, dated for 3 years then married for 55 years. Bob proudly served his country in the Navy, then he bravely fought fires & saved lives for the Halifax Fire Department for 26 years, all while driving taxi for Casino. Bob loved to laugh & joke around while loving his family unconditionally, as they did him in return. His calm, gentle, brave, & kind demeanor will live on in fond memories of those who knew & loved him best.

Survived by his loving wife, Nancy A. Whorrall, adoring son & daughter, Robert L. Whorrall & Careen S. McNeil, & son in law, Kevin McNeil, & daughter in law, Hayley Whorrall, 6 beautiful grandchildren who cherished their “Puppy,” Jessica Whorrall, Camryn McNeil, Noah Whorrall, Nicholas Whorrall, Charlee Anne Whorrall, & Grace Whorrall. Also survived by brothers, Doug & Allan Whorrall.

Bob requested in life not to have a funeral but rather for those who knew & cared for him to celebrate his life in their own special way.

Bob, for all the scary movies you rented for us to watch way too late on your big screen TV (the biggest I had ever seen), for all of the wood burning in your stove where we’d dry our mittens, for the skating rinks in the back yard, for the fun cleaning your cars (especially the sports cars), for every special telephone ring of Bob’s taxi service, for all you gigantic smiles, for Christmas mornings, staying over for supper, sleepovers every weekend and for always giving Careen and I free rain to all your tools and supplies to build camps from your garage....Bob, you will be missed for all this and so much more. You were a huge part of my childhood, a part of my upbringing and a part of who I am today. You and that smile will always be remembered. You have left an amazing legacy in your children and grandchildren, all of whom exhibit a special part of you. Nancy, I have been sending enormous love your way. This time is nothing but exceptional. Growing up with you as a second mom, I know how strong and fearless you can be. You set so many positive examples for us on how to get through our challenges. Know that I am carrying you in my heart, offering you all the strength and love I can. Tight hugs to you all. ❤️

My favorite memory is when, as a young firefighter I was stationed with Bob in Spryfield. A man brought his teenage son in to the station. The son had severely cut his hand on a tablesaw and was in obvious distress. As we waited for the ambulance Bob sat with the teenager and quietly spoke to him while checking his hand. It was amazing to see how his quiet and reassuring voice was able to calm and relax the young man. Nancy so sorry for your, and our loss.
