Obituary For Shirley Everett

Ode to Shirley Sydney, Cape Breton on August 12, 1949 Nishie and Marge realized that it was now the time. Their second child was eager to get out into this world; a beautiful baby, another sweet little girl. Carol, Shirl, Donna, Marie and John made the Smith family complete A happy Catholic family living on Archibald Street. Carlotta lived next door and they grew up together A lifelong friendship that has shared all kinds of weather. As a young teen Shirley wanted to be a Nun That was before the dating game had begun. As she outgrew the dolls and toys She handed over her Rosary and started going out with boys. When her education at Sydney Academy was through Shirley knew exactly what she wanted to do. Her goals were big but not out of reach She chose a career in education and got a certificate to teach. Shirley married and had two daughters of her own Natalie and Jennifer are now all grown Quinn was a later gift that Shirley cherishes for sure all three of her children she does truly adore. Her girls blessed her with treasures only a grandparent truly understands Charlie, Aunika, Ella and Ethan are her biggest fans. Grammie has done art, read books and taken them for walks Sometimes she just sits and listens or gives a little talk. Shirl The Whirl she is sometimes called and this is for good reason Always quick to join in for the fun no matter what the season. She loves meeting people and has travelled near and far By plane, train or motorhome and often in a car. Ironville Ladies have a special place in her heart and that is where our friendship first had its start. Shirley’s sense of humour, kindness and smile are really too great to measure The love, laughter and support we have shared are things that I will always treasure. We love you.

A Poem by Ann Tanner Shirley lived her life to the fullest and wanted her memorial to be a celebration that reflected her joy of life. Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life and park bench dedication for her this April in Halifax. We will let everyone know the specifics in the New Year.

I am just hearing of Shirley,s passing, a wonderful woman whose life was cut too short. Oh, so many beautiful memories of Shirley, she had the most brightest smile ever. She loved her girls and son with all she had. To her family and Clark, I am so sad for you all. Shirley loved life, being a teacher and most of all a mom and grand mother. No question her absence is like the sky, spread over every thing. Please know she will watch over you from the heavens until u all meet again. Very sincerely and respectively. Soar so high dear woman

When I think of Shirley I think of fun times, Ms. Ironville, lunches, dinners and sleepovers. I can only picture Shirley with a smile on her lovely face. She will be missed. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

Shirley was an amazing lady. Her smile would light up the room. Even though we had a short friendship it is one I will treasure forever. She always looked at the positive in any situation and always make the best of a bad situation. We've shared many laughs together. Weldon and I both will miss her and her memories will live on with us. Jennifer,Nat and Quinn, our deepest sympathy, maybe someday we can share some memories together.

It is so sad that Beryl and I (Mel) will never again hear the phone ring and our dear friend Shirley's voice asking what we were doing. The real question she was asking was, can I come down and have a glass of wine with you? She would then come down her very long driveway and walk straight across the road and up our not-so-long driveway. After a few glasses and, sometimes, some food, she would be ready to go back to the 'Chalet', as it was called, and Mel would drive her back up the long driveway in the dark. No wonder she didn't like walking back up there by herself. Yes, Mel had had some glasses, too, but we only travelled across one road - otherwise on private property. We miss you, Shirley, very much, but your friendship, your humour and laugh, your generosity and your help while Beryl was going through her mastectomy and radiation have for ever imprinted themselves on our memories. Because of our faith, we know you are in God's heaven and one day we will all be together. Jesus made and drank wine, so there may well be wine in Heaven! God bless you, Shirley. xoxo

Ms. Everette was one of my favourite teachers - grade 4 and 6 ... I was saddened to hear of her loss. She made our learning fun. Next year (on November 13) we will open our time capsule at William King. The work that we did in our classes with Ms. Everette has been saved in there for 30 years. I hope you join us.

Shirley (or Miss Everett as I knew her) was my grade primary teacher. I still remember how comfortable she made me feel as a young child entering the school system - she had the biggest smile! Later in life, I was lucky to meet her daughter, Natalie, who shared the same kindness as Miss Everett did. Natalie & I were co-workers and soon after made the connection that Shirley was her mother, a woman she talked about in almost every story she would tell me. The love for her mother was very clear to me and I loved hearing about what Miss Everett was like today. Thinking of you lots, Natalie. Sending my love your way in this difficult time. Rest easy, Miss Everett <3

Beautiful tribute. Shirley and I went to elementary school together and competed for first and second place in each grade. Sometimes me. Sometimes her. With Carol and Carlotta, we shared endless play dates, at home with dolls and carriages or outside making forts and play houses. Seems like yesterday. Rest well, dear Shirley.
