Obituary For Shirley Everett
Ode to Shirley Sydney, Cape Breton on August 12, 1949 Nishie and Marge realized that it was now the time. Their second child was eager to get out into this world; a beautiful baby, another sweet little girl. Carol, Shirl, Donna, Marie and John made the Smith family complete A happy Catholic family living on Archibald Street. Carlotta lived next door and they grew up together A lifelong friendship that has shared all kinds of weather. As a young teen Shirley wanted to be a Nun That was before the dating game had begun. As she outgrew the dolls and toys She handed over her Rosary and started going out with boys. When her education at Sydney Academy was through Shirley knew exactly what she wanted to do. Her goals were big but not out of reach She chose a career in education and got a certificate to teach. Shirley married and had two daughters of her own Natalie and Jennifer are now all grown Quinn was a later gift that Shirley cherishes for sure all three of her children she does truly adore. Her girls blessed her with treasures only a grandparent truly understands Charlie, Aunika, Ella and Ethan are her biggest fans. Grammie has done art, read books and taken them for walks Sometimes she just sits and listens or gives a little talk. Shirl The Whirl she is sometimes called and this is for good reason Always quick to join in for the fun no matter what the season. She loves meeting people and has travelled near and far By plane, train or motorhome and often in a car. Ironville Ladies have a special place in her heart and that is where our friendship first had its start. Shirley’s sense of humour, kindness and smile are really too great to measure The love, laughter and support we have shared are things that I will always treasure. We love you.
A Poem by Ann Tanner Shirley lived her life to the fullest and wanted her memorial to be a celebration that reflected her joy of life. Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life and park bench dedication for her this April in Halifax. We will let everyone know the specifics in the New Year.
