Barbara McInnis

Obituary for Barbara McInnis

Barb and I met during the summer of 1977 at Atlantic Motorsport Park, and I thank Steve for that. Our paths crossed a few times before we started dating. We enjoyed being together and sharing our experiences and feelings. Spending time with each other at the cottage helped us understand how much we had going for us and ways we could share what might come next.

The deaths of Barb's father and brother made us realize how quickly things can change. Christmas in Florida and Germany, and a great July in France were just a few of the adventures we enjoyed. We shared special times with our neighborhood friends enjoying Christmas activities, BBQ's, and dips in the hot tub. Trips to the ball field and traveling dinners created special feelings to be remembered. Digby Pines offered beautiful scenery and wharf side meals, with time to replay our best golf holes together with some of our close friends. Cottage life gave us a chance to be involved in a variety of activities such as ball tournaments, mackerel fishing on the strait, and lobster boils at the camp.
Everywhere Barb went she met a great group of women friends. The Beech Street girls, her WFS sisters, and the famous Pictou Island posse were each a source of fun and friendship for all involved. Swimming and walking on the beach, "Gunsmoke" Sunday morning and reading quietly were some of Barb's favorite times. There are many names on the list Barb loved and I hope you all realize the joy you brought her. In Barb's opinion, nothing topped family, and with the births of Ian and Corrie we had our miracles. Our extended family could fill a stadium. Barb knew everyone's name and had a special connection with each one, and then Violet was born. Barb shared Violet's fight for her life at the IWK, and her exciting recovery. Nothing made Barb happier than an overnight with Violet. She would prepare for days planning meals, activities, walks, and any other adventures she thought Violet would like, such as a trip to the taproom. She loved being with Violet in the "Bratcave" while playing the Wii, watching a movie, reading a book, or resting while Violet played on her tablet. They both entertained and cared deeply for each other.

I know her passing has made many people sad, and we thank Chrissy for being there for Barb. We talked in the hospital and agreed we were a lucky couple and we had a great dance. All of the time together she made loving fun. I love you MP from DP.

I met Barb through my friend Janice Huffman. Over the years we were in Nova Scotia I shared many great times with Barb at family events and especially our ladies only weekends!! Barb was always happy and smiling! She had a razor sharp wit and her sense of humour was unmatched! Her presence filled a room, she was a beautiful soul. My heart and my prayers go out to her family and to those who loved her! Her wings were ready! But our hearts were not!

Oh Calvin, Where do I begin??? When I met Barb in 1992, the year I moved to Halifax, I thought, what a fun loving lady. I was only in Halifax for 4 years, but in those four years I totally enjoyed getting to know Barb. Ian would come and spend weekends with the kids and I. (We had to put him in a room by himself, because of his excessive snoring. lol) Barb and I used to laugh so much over that! Swear to god he was the loudest kid I ever heard! We had a lot of good times together. When I would go to visit you guys I certainly had to plan nothing else for that day. Even after I left Nova Scotia, I so enjoyed going over to your place for a visit. But of course, life moved on and got busy with children, and grandchildren and we never saw each other as often as we should have. I just want you to know that you and Barb have always been a part of family and I felt a sisterhood with her, she was easy to love and so are you, and your boys. She will be deeply missed and remembered always. My heart and thoughts are with you and the family always, give my love to all. Joanne and Doug

Calvin, Dee and I were shocked to read of Barbs passing. Even though it's been many years since I last saw Barb I still remember how cheery and easy going she always was, she was a great girl. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sully Calvin, Barb was a lovely, warm person and I've never forgotten a sweet gesture she made to me years ago. We had met up on a day when you two were going to a QEH reunion dance. Rather than us leave and go home to Fall River (at the time...I was in shorts), Barb offered her closet for me to choose a dress. She was so considerate and giving. I've never forgotten how lovely she was. Sincere sympathy, Dee

Lovely tribute to your beautiful wife and best friend, Calvin. I have so many wonderful memories of Barbara, my time with her, what she taught me, the many times she was there for me. You mentioned WFS and I want to add that Barb was a founding member along with me and Chrissy of the first group in Nova Scotia. I love this advice from her that I've used too often to count...."If you're having a hard time getting started, get up and do something" One more thing I want to share. When I was holding her hand and telling her how much I loved her because you, Calvin, made sure we got a chance to visit her in the hospital, I also added that she was surrounded by love because so many people loved her. She said very matter of fact "That's because I loved them" Clark sends his sincere condolences.
