Obituary For Brenda Stephens

Brenda passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, at the age of 76.

Raised in Red Islands, Cape Breton, Brenda was the beloved daughter of Donald K. MacLeod and Mary Jessie MacLeod. In her adult years, she made her home in Dartmouth, where she built a life centered around family, hard work, and unconditional love.

Brenda shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Joseph. Together they raised their two children, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and strong family values.

Brenda was known for her incredible work ethic and dedication throughout her career. She managed Little Nashville Cabaret until its closure and later became a valued employee at Canadian Tire Dartmouth Crossing, where she worked until earlier this year. In December 2025, she was proudly recognized as Employee of the Year — an honour that reflected the commitment, reliability, and care she brought to every workplace throughout her life.

Outside of work, Brenda was famously unmatched when it came to laundry and ironing. There was never a stain she could not remove or a piece of clothing she could not perfectly press. It was one of the many ways she showed love to the people around her.

Her greatest joy in life came from being a Nanny. Brenda adored her grandchildren and loved them endlessly. She never missed an opportunity to spoil them, and her family often joked that she single-handedly kept Toys “R” Us in business during its final years.

Brenda leaves behind her loving husband Joseph; her daughter Crystal, granddaughters Meeyah and Riley; her son Justin, daughter-in-law Amy, and grandson Oliver. As well as Kayden, who she loved as a grandson and Starr who was very special to her. She is also survived by her sister Lorraine and husband Jim, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Brenda will be remembered for her strength, dedication, caring heart, and the deep love she had for her family. Her presence will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.

Service will be held on Monday May 18th at 10:00am at Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 320 Flying Cloud Drive, Cole Harbour with reception to follow.

Brenda was my godmother. She meant a lot to me. I have such happy memories as a child spending time with Crystal. Going to see Justins Baseball games, traveling to his Taekwondo tournaments and eating Joey's BBQ. I got to see Brenda & Joey again a few years ago the last time I was home after moving away. & so glad I did. I last saw Justin and Crystal at her wedding. I wish I had would have been able to see them since. All my best to my second family who helped raise me. <3
