Obituary For Dorothy Hilda Barkhouse (Dobson)

Dorothy Hilda Barkhouse (Dobson) of Seaforth Nova Scotia was 92 years old when she passed on April 25, 2026. She was born in Toronto to the late Mable (Maynard) and Thomas Dobson.

Dolly was a bookkeeper by trade and in her early years she worked many jobs, of which Cosmic Radio in Toronto was the most significant, because this is where she met her soul mate. Dolly and Oran Barkhouse became fast friends and eventually married in Scarborough town center in Toronto on September 26, 1981. These 44 years were the happiest of her life.

Dolly enjoyed many things, like travel, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, practical jokes and spending time with family and friends, but her favorite by far was spending quiet time with her husband.

Dolly needed a purpose as well as an outlet for her creativity. She found this by owning and operating a trophy and gift shop giving her the chance to also use her bookkeeping skills. The store has been closed for some time, but she still desired to reopen it.

Dolly is survived by her devoted husband Oran Barkhouse, her son Larry Prosser (Angela), her sister Nancy Hazel Campbell, as well as by Oran’s children Alan Barkhouse, Amy Shaw (Gordon), Gary Barkhouse (Melaina), Greta Metcalfe (Scott), and ten grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her son Allen, and two sisters, Rene and Phyllis.

Dolly was a generous member of her community, and she will be missed by family and friends.

Oh Dolly how I miss you and the name Grandma Maynard gave you "Dolly Daydreams" so true. You made every day an advennture when we were kids, although the one I remember most you left me (5 years old) in Riverdale Park and told Mom I was on the way home (hours later). Our trip in 1959 for a week, Ford Museum' Indianapolis Speedway, one lap around the race track, West Virginia ending up in Central Park New York. I slept on the front seat and you on the back seat. It was one of my best trips ever. RIP my sister you deserve it. Till we meet again, love LiL Sis Nanny
