Obituary for Edward Parfitt

It is with a heavy heart, that the family of Edward Seeley Parfitt announce the passing of our dad on Tuesday Feb 16th 2021, at the Halifax Infirmary. Born in St. John NB, the son of Leslie Harold Parfitt and Madelene Dora Seeley. He was 91 years old. He joined the Navy in 1947 and retired in 1973. He served in the Naval Air Group, doing duty on Aircraft Carriers Magnificent and Bonaventure. He was primarily stationed at CFB Shearwater. He was a member of C.N.A.G. He finished his working career with Halifax County as an Inspector. He loved having the family around the supper table or his back yard barbeque. The more family, the bigger the smile. He enjoyed travelling with mom, before they had children, and especially after he retired when the children were grownup. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing canoeing and gardening. He was a handyman, jack of all trades. Everything from home construction, auto mechanic, fiberglass canoes and the building of his backyard fish pond with a grapevine to make his own wine with his brother in-law Richard Jacob. He spent many an hour completing his newspaper, Crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and the daily cryptoquote. A man who was forced to leave high school in grade 11, to support his family, his love and thirst for knowledge, he always seemed to know something about anything. He was strong on honesty, sportsmanship and manners and respect. He was good neighbour, a devote Catholic who served the Sackville NS Diocese for many years. He volunteered in the Community. In the Progress Club of Lower Sackville he helped create a community band. Dad always believed in helping out, especially family and friends.
He is survived by his 5 sons, Gerry (Vicki) Falmouth NS, Patrick (Lisa) Golden Grove NB, Allen, Red Deer Alberta, Stephen (Tanya) Lower Sackville NS and Brian, Red Deer Alberta. He had 2 brothers, David and Wayne. He had 9 grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Megan, Sean, Shannyn, Melissa, Lindsay and Sara, and the 15 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Theresa (Mullane) Parfitt, a son Paul, and his 3 sisters Mary, Eileen and Leslie.
Loving Husband, Devoted Father and Great Friend...We Will Miss You, But Never Forget you.
Rest in Peace Dad

To the Parfitt family. I would like to pass on my deepest condolences with the passing of uncle Ted. I was very young when our family moved to Dartmouth. Uncle Ted and aunt Eve naturaly welcomed us into the family like one of their own. Very quickly they became what I like to refer to as our N.S. grandparents. Their legendary Xmas dinners boogled the mind of this little boy and to this day nothing has every came close in comparison. All those great times meant alot to my parent(Carol & Paul Dunn), as well as me and my brother and sister(Adam & Katie). I will alway remember their loving embrace, uncle Teds huge smile and booming laughter. They lived for family and family lived for them. Uncle Ted left a very big mark on this little boy. He will be missed and always remembered. Sincerely Jonathan Dunn

I met Ted when I was posted to VS880, as newbie to the RA trade. He was one of the best and was a great mentor to us, more than willing to teach us tricks of trade when servicing aircraft. He made working with him, an experience of enlightenment. My deepest sympathy for all of the family.

To my dear cousins and your families: Kevin and I send our good thoughts and prayers for all of you. Losing your dad is hard, no matter his age or how long you have been blessed to have him. I also have great memories of Uncle Ted at our family get together. He welcomed Kevin into the fold like he was one of his own boys. Whenever we were home to NS, and visited him, he made us feel special. I have good memories of him and my Dad and the trouble they got into together!! He will be missed by all

Dear Parfitt family: Rick, Andrew, Ally and I all send our condolences to you at this difficult time. Uncle Ted was a bigger than life personality and a true softie at heart. I have fond memories of Christmases with our two families together and with him carving the turkey. We often took summer Sunday trips to the beach or the lake and Uncle Ted would man the barbecue and cook up the hot dogs and burgers. He loved having the gang together. He and Aunt Evie visited us a few times in Caledonia and Burlington. They treated Andrew and Allison like grandkids: read stories to them, bounced them on their knee, and brought them treats. We took Evie and Ted to see the Blue Jays a couple times and they really enjoyed seeing the Skydome and the live games. Sometimes, we would just stay up in the evenings, have an adult beverage and share memories from growing up back home. These are some of the good times I will remember and miss. I hope you all are able to recall the happy memories of your dad and that they will provide some small comfort as you cope with his passing. Love, Terry (Jacob-Baxter)

Thinking of all you Parfitt sand your families at this sorrowful time. Loved Uncle Ted so much. Always visited whenever I went home to Nova Scotia. Always fond memories of holidays and barbecues and being thrown up high in the air as a kiss. But as I said at Evie and Ted's 50th anniversary, as an adult I realized that I was not that far off the ground! Sending you all my love and hugs at this incredibly difficult time. Suzanne
