Obituary For Frederick Stewart Lordly

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Stewart Lordly on August 13, 2023. Fred had a full and successful life. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George Reading Lordly and Daphne Stewart (Smith) Lordly. He attended Kings College School in Windsor, NS where he was ‘head boy’ and captain of the hockey and rugby teams. Most importantly, he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Mary Ann. The two settled in Halifax where Fred had an accomplished career in the family lumber business located on the waterfront. He had many skills in gardening, plumbing, electrical, arts and crafts, and building anything, including barns, treehouses, play sets, and rabbit hutches. The greatest joy of Fred’s life was being a dedicated and supportive father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He raised three strong daughters that adored him and were by his side until the very end. Some of our best memories with Fred took place at camp; skating, swimming, fishing, catching eels, riding horses, jumping off his homemade wharf, going for boat rides to ’the bluff’, boiling corn on the cob, or enjoying a special breakfast he cooked with love. Fred was always at the center of family holidays, keeping the fire going for the entirety of Christmas and sharing his Birthday with Thanksgiving dinner. Fred’s good nature and generosity gained the devotion of several dogs in his life. He will be sorely missed by his best girl, Briar. Fred was a good friend and made lifelong connections with people he met throughout his life. Fred had a kind and gentle heart, he was hardworking, humble, charming, and stood up for what he believed in. He liked to keep things simple and make people smile. While life will not be the same for his daughters Daphne (Alex Mielnik), Jane (the late Shaun Clarke) and Sara Lordly, grandsons Jamie, Noah, Aaron and Logan Mielnik, granddaughters Jean and Grace Clarke and great grandson Ethan Mielnik, he has left us with unforgettable memories and lessons. Predeceased by wife, Mary Ann Duff (Lohnes) Lordly; sisters, Joy and Margaret and infant sister Jane. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (Nova Scotia) (https://crohnsandcolitis.ca/Location/Maritimes/Halifax).

Private family service will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made by visiting: https://www.donaldkwalker.ca

Dear Jane, Sara, Daphne, Jean, and Grace: Please know that John and I and Martha Jane are thinking of you at this difficult time. I had the privilege of meeting your father/ grandfather but only on one or two occasions. On reading his obituary, I wish I had got to know him better. He was obviously a wonderful man because he sure raised three wonderful daughters. I haven't met Daphne, but I can imagine that she is just as nice as Sara and Jane. And his traits were certainly passed along to Jean and Grace. Please take comfort in your friends and family. Fred will be there in every memory and story your share. Two trees have been planted in Fred Lordly's memory, from the Jenkins Family. All the best, Glenna and John

Dear Daphne, Sarah and Jane and family, I am sad to hear of your father's passing. I know that he would have found great comfort in the fact that he had his girl's faithfully attending to his needs until his last days. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Fred, l knew him to be a very accomplished and personable man and loving father and husband. It was a pleasure to view the family photos that captured many cherished times you shared. I hope these and other memories continue to bring you comfort and ease your grief in the coming years. Irene Healy, Frank Vihant and family.

Dear Daphne, I was so sorry to see your father's obituary in the paper. He seemed like he was a wonderful person and I know you and your family will feel the loss. Even when we lose our parents after they have lived a long life, the loss is still great. However I expect you will have many wonderful memories to keep his spirit alive for a long time. The Honorable William Duff was a great uncle of mine. To identify myself, my mother Mary (MacGlashen) Montgomerie was a niece of Senator William Duff. My mother's mother was Jean (Duff) MacGlashen, a sister to Uncle Will. I recollect meeting Mary Ann at a family gathering, likely the funeral of my aunt Margery MacGlashen in Dartmouth. As well, while attending a concert in Lunenburg United Church, I observed a plaque placed there by Mary Ann. I was saddened to learn of Mary Ann's passing; I am saddened now to learn that Fred's three daughters have lost their beloved father. On behalf of the Montgomerie family of John, Stewart and Duff I extend my condolences to the family at this time.
