Obituary For Ida Joyce Crawford

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida Joyce (Falconer) Crawford at the age of 80 on June 1, 2023 at the Halifax Infirmary QEII.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Orland and Ethel (Gunn) Falconer. She was predeceased by her brother Charles Falconer, sister Katherine (Rhyno) and son Derek Crawford.

Joyce’s school years were spent in Halifax and St. Margaret’s Bay. When she married, she moved to Lower Sackville to raise her family. During that time she managed the family business, Cobequid Market. She then moved to British Columbia to train as an Esthetician and start her first Esthetics business in Abbottsford. As time passed, she longed to return to Nova Scotia where she owned and operated Elizabeth Jardine in Scotia Square. Joyce loved her work and her clients loved her in return.

Family, friends and people in general have always been very important to Joyce. Her greatest joy was sharing stories, memories and lots of laughs whether that was in person or in recent years over phone, she loved it all. She was young at heart, had a zest for life, and a great sense of humour. Her ability to accept people for who they were and make them feel special were two of her greatest gifts.

Her love of colour and artistic flare showed in her home, clothing, crafts and work.

Joyce is survived by: her brothers Peter Falconer and sister-in-law Faye (Ontario), Doug Falconer and sister-in-law Mary (Lr. Sackville, Nova Scotia); daughters Terri Lee Simpson (Calgary, Alberta) and Vicki Ninos (Calgary, Alberta); her grandchildren: Jamie Simpson, Krista (Robert) Nollenberger, Amber Ninos, Lara Ninos, MaryLynn Crawford, Jessica Crawford, and Christopher Crawford; her great grandchildren: Jacob, Alec, Kinsley, Crosby and Quincy. She was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews and their wonderful families.

Joyce was small in stature, but big in heart. She leaves behind many wonderful memories for us to hold forever. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday June 8, 2023 at 11:00am at The Lion’s Club, 101 Old Beaverbank Road, Lower Sackville, NS.

A Celebration of Life will also be held on Prince Edward Island this summer.

Donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca or Kidney Foundation at kidney.ca

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses for their wonderful care and respect that they provided during this difficult time.

My memories of Joyce are many and go back to our days at Elegant Touch Hair Design on Quinpool Rd. We met through our mutual friend, Barbara Keefe. Joyce was a remarkable person. I will never forget her goodness; the laughs we shared; socializing with Barbara on many and memorable occasions. We did lose touch but she was never forgotten. Of course I thought I would see her again. I live in Milwaukee but Halifax is never far from my heart. Rest in Peace dear Joyce. The lives you have touched are saddened by your departure yet my faith tells us we will see each other again. My sincere condolences to her mourning family. The world today needs more Joyce's. Br. My heart is saddened to hear the passing of Joyce. I met Joyce through Barb and Kelly and went to Kelly place every Saturday night knowing Joyce would be there. I grew very fond to Joyce she had a great sense of humor and told a lot of funny stories. We all laughed a lot. Such a kind person. Kelly always played music for her and always played her favorite song, The Dance. I am forever grateful that I had a chance to meet her. She will be forever in my heart ❤️ and thoughts. I will cherish my memories of Joyce and never will be forgotten ❤️
