Obituary For John Edward Jamieson

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of John Edward Jamieson (Jamie) at the age of 74 on Saturday March 28th, 2026 in Halifax Nova Scotia. John was born in Halifax to James Joseph Jamieson and Edith Ellen Jamieson (Krafve). He was the 6th of 8 children. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers (Frank and Donald) and sister Edith (Quait). Surviving siblings Blanche (Wilson), Jim, Patrick (Margaret), and Tommy (Lynne).

He enjoyed a 38-year career in the federal government, seven as a Master Corporal signalman in the Canadian Navy and 31 as a marine traffic regulator with the Canadian Coast Guard, retiring in 2007.

He was married to his soulmate, Sara Lynne Fowler for the last 25 years. He was blessed to have had three children, Michael (Nicole), Richard, and Rebecca (Jeremy). The joy of his later years were his four grandchildren Maya, Lucas, Anna, and Jaina.

Jamie was a kind and generous man who liked to make others laugh. His wit and humour made it fun to be around him. He made friends wherever he went. He was an engaging person, the type of person you could talk to for hours and would still want one more story or tall tale. He enjoyed helping others when he could. He was a great story teller, funny, and a super cook. He made a difference in many of our lives.

He was an avid Blue Jays fan. There was nothing better than an afternoon baseball game to experience joy or utter frustration. He loved hiking and being in nature especially near the ocean on a sunny day.

John hopes that he made some people laugh during his life journey. A final message to his family and friends, “I had a wonderful life”.

John leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory deeply. As we bid farewell, we want to thank you Jamie/Johnny from all of us who loved you so deeply. We will carry your love with us forever.

Thank you to the NS cancer center for the kindness and support during his final journey.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place to celebrate his life.

Love doesn’t die,

People do.

So, when all that’s left of me

Is love,

Give me away.

Condolences

Sara & family it is with great sorrow that i offer you my condolences on the passing of John or better known to us as Jamie. I knew him for many years working indirectly with him at the Operations Centre and then as his supervisor at the Centre for 10 years. He was a true professional at his work and also knew how to have fun when the time came. Jamie made my transition to Ops Centre extremely easy and enjoyed his stories from his navy days. I will truly miss him. Again my condolences to you Sara and your family. Dave Smith Retired, Canadian Cost Guard

Joan and I would like to extend our condolences to the family. JJ was all and more than what was said in his obituary. We played ball together and partied on and off the field for many years. He will be missed but we are sure your many fond memories of him will keep him alive in your hearts and minds forever.

I worked with him at the CG Centre in Dartmouth for over 20 years. He always had a cheerful and positive outlook and was there to help in any way. His picture in this obituary shows the exact same happy person I remember. God bless you all. Veronica Stevenson
