Obituary For Manus Lloyd Farmer

Age 65, of Halifax, passed away suddenly yet peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital, on November 8, 2021 with his son Manus and daughter Vanessa both by his side. Born in Shelburne on December 13, 1955, Manus was the son of the late Manus and Marjorie Farmer and foster parents Reginald and Evelyn Langford.

He attended Weymouth Consolidated School and after graduating studied Culinary Arts at the Community College in Middleton, Nova Scotia. He became a chef at The Chateau Halifax Hotel. He was a man of many trades, holding down various occupations through life from an early short stint in the Air Force, the Oasis Kitchen, the Waverly Inn to his most proud and recent role of a Commissionaire being the last job he worked. His true passion was cooking in the kitchen or volunteering to coach Steelers Basketball youth, including the teams of two of his children. He enjoyed spending quality time and his many adventures with his youngest son Keshaun. He also enjoyed socializing with friends and playing in the Metro Pool Leagues. Anyone who got to spend time with him knew his kind sense of humour and the kind heart he had. He loved making people laugh and cracking jokes but definitely laughed the hardest at his own. His deep hearty laugh was contagious when heard.

He is survived by his son Manus Jr (Cindy), daughter Vanessa (Paul), grandchildren Kierra, Ty-Gregory, Gabriel, Isabella, Brayden, Mylin, Brooklynn, Izaiah, and two great grandchildren Giovanni and Giánna. Sisters; Carol Farmer of Shelburne, Helen (Jeffery) Johnston, Donna (Sheldon) Symonds, all of Dartmouth, Dorothy and Shirley Johnson, Sheila Elliott of Sacramento. Brothers; Mai-Gemu (Joy) Johnson of Sacramento, Clayton(Debbie) Langford and Gifford Farmer of Halifax along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Cleveland, Robert, Ernest, Stenson, Donald and triplet sister Estelle (Stella) as well as his first love and mother of his three children, Linda Farmer and dearest son Keshaun Farmer.

He will be sadly missed and always remembered.

Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses of the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater as well as the Staff at Harbourview Haven in Lunenburg for the extraordinary level of care and compassion they provided to our Father and family.

We used to call him Junior when we were really young, growing up on Weymouth Falls road. But when high school hit, he was Manus!!! He was a few years older than me but we all got on and everyone knew and loved him. Basketball, crazy fun and laughter are the things I associate with him. So many funny memories. I was shocked and saddened when learning of his passing. My heart felt condolences to his family. Have comfort in knowing that he is out there somewhere with his head thrown back in heaps of belly laughter while others are smiling right along with him. Rest in peace Manus, thanks for the fun all those years ago. Love Nat xo

So Sad to hear of Manus's passing. He and I became good friends when we worked at the Lord Nelson Hotel from 1981 to 1985. We hung out together after work and what a great time we had. Manus was so funny and full of fun it is one of my treasured memories in my life. Condolences to his family and may God bless him and care for him in his eternal life. R.I.P. My friend.- Kevin McNeil.

I remember Uncle Manus taking me on those rides in his car with no radio. He used to say his engine is his radio. It has a rhythm to it. I think of him everytime I'm in my car riding with no music and anytime I'm eating rhubarb! Love you unc! Rest in Power King. Till we meet again.

Sending my deepest condolences to all of Manus Sr.'s family, but specifically to Vanessa and Manus jr. ... Your Dad will be greatly missed, he was a special person , a kind, loving, and caring sole. Who loved his family, he was very proud of his kids, especially his grandchildren! " Big Manus"always liked to have fun, joke around with everyone, and carry on. He loved to flirt with the ladies( I bet he was quite the ladies man back in the day) lol, always harmless fun, but enjoyed making people feel good about themselves. He always brought good vibes, wherever he went, and that's why he was a true joy to be around. I'm sure everyone that knew him , have so many great stories and memories of him. But I know the great memories that Vanessa and "Young Manus" have , you will cherish forever. You guys have had some rough blows the last few years, with such great losses, of such important family members in your life, taken from you.No one should have to go through all of that, especially with all the other struggles life is throwing at you. But, you both are very strong people, and you will get through this. I'm sure it will make your bond even tighter (Manus & Vanessa), And now alongside your mom and Keshawn, your dad will be watching over you as well. ❤️❤️❤️ Sending so much love to you both, Manus and Vanessa. I thought the world of your Dad , and will miss him. Sarah Fong

We are thankful to God for allowing us to experience His kindness, gentleness, humor and love through the life of my brother Manus, who was such an incredible blessing to our family and the many lives he touched during his brief time on earth. He is now resting in the arms of Jesus. For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. 1 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. 13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. 23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139: 1-18, 23-24 -Mai-Gemu & Joy Johnson & Family

On behalf of my family I want to extend my sincere condolences to the entire family of Manus, Manus worked at Chateau Halifax with my late husband, William Fagan for a number of years and was a good co-worker and most of all great friend. Though they went their separate ways William would talk fondly of Manus and the antic's they both would get into with my Late Uncle David Colley and the Late Joe Douglas in the Main kitchen at Chateau Halifax. I pray that the memories you all shared bring you comfort in the days ahead and remember the bible tells us "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" May God bless you all Harriet Fagan and family

Very sorry to hear about your father's passing. I didn't get to see Manus that often but when I did I was sure to walk away with a smile on my face. He was a good man and I will miss that crazy laugh of his. RIP my friend.

I am so sorry for your loss! I met Manus in 1972 when I had a summer job at Weymouth Falls running a pre-school program at the community hall and drop in activities for the older kids and teenagers. He was really one of the "kids" but was a huge help to us in organizing things and introducing us to the community. We stayed friends until I moved to BC in 1975 but he continued to visit my parents in Halifax from time to time until they also moved away. I was so proud of his accomplishments at the time and regret having lost touch with him over the years. It sounds like he was blessed with a huge family and I am truly sorry for your loss.
