Obituary For Margaret Boudreau

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Marie Margaret Boudreau, 76, of Petit de Grat which occurred peacefully at home on December 8th, 2020.

Born in Arichat to the late Edward and Evangeline (Goyetche) Landry. She was the youngest of 9 siblings. Not being fond of school, she began working at Boots Fisheries from the age of 16 until the closing of the cod fishery. Although not easy work, she worked tirelessly, never complained and could be heard saying ‘the pay cheque doesn’t stink’, she was a proud provider for her young family.

Although she had a rough start in life with her mother’s passing at the age of 11, she was raised by a loving father and went on to raise her own family with love and kindness. She was an active and giving member of her community. She always welcomed others for a meal and a place for others less fortunate (usually teenagers) to lay their heads, sometimes for an extended period of time. She was generous and loving and did not judge those who were less fortunate, having had her own challenges in her younger years. The kindness and compassion she showed others will always be remembered.

She enjoyed playing cars (scat, canasta and 45s) and enjoyed the many trips she was able to take to PEI, New Brunswick and Halifax with her children. Her love of classic country music was contagious. Her dream was realized when she was able to attend a Kenny Rogers concert in Halifax with her daughters.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Gerald Boudreau; her daughters Evy and Beckey (Neil Landry). She was most proud of her 5 grandchildren; Ryan Shannon; Mikala and Nikolas Boudreau; Kathryn and Julia Landry. Step-daughter Michelle Scott (Mike); Daughter-in-law Wanda Bishop-Boudreau.

She leaves to mourn her 3 sisters, Sylvia, Nola and Marjorie (Clem Benoit). Her sisters-in-law, Margaret McConnell, Claire Marchard, Betty Richard, Delia (Vincent) Benoit and Vivian (Eddy Fougere); Lorraine Landry and Isabelle Boudreau.

She will be fondly remembered by many friends near and far; nieces and nephews and especially her godchildren Lorna Pickett (Dean), Clarence Babin (Joan), Blaine Landry (Sandra), Fran Power and TC Richer (Michel).

She was predeceased by her only son Michael; her sisters Evelyn, Gloria, godmother Mildred. Her brothers Delphis and Conrad. Sister-in-law Lucille Landry. Brothers-in-law Lloyd Power, Clifford Munier and Roddie LeJeune; Amedee, Rudolph and Aloysuis Boudreau; Leonard (Buddy) Richard, Bruce McConnell and Alfred Marchand.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support of the Palliative Care team of Dr. Philippe Cooper, Sarah and previously Kyla and Kayla. The Continuing Care Nurses Adelle, Jackie, Rachael and Paula who were amazing in their dedication to mom’s comfort and care of her wish to remain at home.

The Richmond County Home Support team was also a gift to us during mom’s final journey. The love and support she received from the Continuing Care workers was a blessing to her where we forged many friendships that we would not have had the opportunity otherwise. A wonderful reminder that it takes a community!

To community members, family and friends who called to provide words of comfort, who visited to help pass her days, and who made and delivered food, you have no idea how much your gifts meant to our family. Mom was very appreciative of your thoughtfulness. Thanks for caring.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the celebration of Margaret’s life will be a private family gathering of invited guests only.

Memorial donations can be made to the Straight Richmond Hospital renovation fund. Funeral arrangements under the compassionate care of Evy Landry and Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors Ltd.
