Obituary For Michael James Howell

Michael James Howell, 79, of Bedford, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Jan 23rd, 2024 at the QE 2 Health Sciences Ctr, Halifax, NS.

Born in Yarmouth NS, he was the son of the late Captain Jack and Mary (O,Brien) Howell. He grew up in Hebron, NS, and was the youngest member of his family.
Always one to embrace new experiences, after high school, he attended university and started his first working career in British Columbia. Upon returning to the Maritimes, he pursued a career for over 30 years in the Wire Rope Industry business, in both Canada and the United States.

True to his roots, while in NS, he met the love of his life, and they were devoted to each other in marriage for 55 years. Their life together was filled with love, travel, family, and friendships – including as newlyweds where they lived in Thompson, Manitoba, and more recently a long stint traveling to parts of the US, Canada, and a special Mediterranean cruise. They had long-standing bonds with friends from all over the country such as Newfoundland (Alex his business associate) and New Brunswick. Mike enjoyed his adventures with his good friend John Nolan, including trips to Cape Breton and Ireland, or relaxing on the deck in Prospect.

He is survived by his wife, Delores, (Pothier) Howell and many nieces and nephews, where he is fondly known to them as the “Cookie Monster”. He held a special place in his heart for Lucas and Noah.

Predeceased by brothers, John and Paul, and sisters, Barbara, Mary, Rose, and Emma.

His celebration of life is to be held between the hours of 2-5 pm on Saturday Feb. 3, 2024, at the Dartmouth Yacht Club, 697 Windmill Rd, Dartmouth, NS, with special dedications to begin at 2:30 pm.

Special thanks to the staff in Unit 4.2 at the QE2 Health Sciences Ctr. Halifax, NS. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Later this summer a church service in Yarmouth, NS will be held for family and friends.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Aunt Delores and the entire family. Uncle Mike's departure has left a void that will be deeply felt. I'll always cherish the resonance of his voice and the endearing way he used to call me Robbie. Recently, I offered a quiet prayer, expressing my thoughts and requesting him to convey my regards to Dad. Until the day we reunite, his memory will linger with us. Love Rob and family
