Obituary For Wesley Vickers

Wesley, our son. We were there when he came into this world, and when he became free of this world.

Talent came natural to him. From the time he was a preschooler, he could play music easily. He started on a toy organ.

He loved his pets dearly. Goldie our little cocker spaniel, was the highchair dog. Eating whatever Wesley dropped. The family German shepherds, Star and Buster, gave to much entertainment and exercise kicking balls in the back field.

When Colonel Mustafa, the family cat passed, he did not want to part with his toys. Then along came Mr. Magic, a stray, he adopted from our neighborhood. He loved Mr. Magic, and wherever Wesley lived, Mr. Magic was his constant companion.

Wesley was a talented artist. He could draw easily. Cartoon type characters were his favorite. Later, graffiti art took his interest.

Fishing was another of his pass times. He learned to love fishing from an early age, going with his father. Later, when he lived close to Oat Hill Lake in Dartmouth, he would often go on his own.

He loved going to the valley to the family trailer at the campground, where he enjoyed playing in campground washer tournaments.

He took guitar and drum lessons, starting on an old secondhand guitar. He had a set of drums in the basement and had a natural knack for playing.

As time went by, he took an interest in turntables, and was known to those who knew him, as “Scratch Master Wes”.

He even did rap at the Marquee in Halifax. He was really into hip hop. He wrote songs and was very in tune to all things artistic.

Wesley liked watching break dancing and would even try it at times.

The love of his life was Nana, who passed away in May 2022. The void of losing her hurt him deeply.

Wesley had plenty of good friends over his lifetime. Many were like family to him.

He was often first to tell a joke and goof around, providing many laughs. He just had a wonderful sense of humor.

Wesley loved everything years gone by. Old comedy was his favorite. The Three Stooges and Buster Keaton were often watched. He was really an old soul.

He worked at the Atlantic Super Store in Dartmouth, as a night stock clerk. He also worked at Home Depot in Dartmouth, where he would operate fork lifts. He also did clerk duties.

Wesley was born in January 1985, at the Halifax Grace Maternity Hospital. He lived in Upper Nine Mile River in East Hants, from age 3 to late teens, when he moved with his family back to Dartmouth, NS.

He left this world much too soon, on April 11, 2025. He contributed to many good memories to those who loved him. He leaves behind his brother Brad, his father Michael Vickers and mother Patricia Conrod, who will always have him in their hearts, with deep love.

I laid my son to rest
Yesterday
A gift I gave
He is with his granpa and nanny now

No other gift is so dear
As to give your child to their care
To look after each other
Until we can find our way from this place

This place of feelings mixed
Of fear and hate
To a place, I hope
Where there is no judgement anymore

A place of light and love
Be at peace my son
But
Do not rest

Love
MOM

Wes was family to me, I have many great memories of him. Wes and I many times would go to Lake Penhorn fishing. I also remember being down and out ,and Wes would do one of his many dance moves such as the robot, telling me to cheer up. Wes was generous, would make us huge sandwiches at the Vickers residence where I have stayed many nights. Wes would come down to the basement where he resided and be like "Hey Kasey look at these sandwiches". I am pretty sure he used all the deli meats and cheeses lol. Wes was very talented, he would spin records, sample and make music. Sometimes he would get me to play some bongos. There will never be another human like Wes. Wes may you and the passed on hip hop and funk artists ,make your beautiful, groovy, funky music. Scratch and sample away..Love you Scratch Master Wes. Until we meet again,Slàinte.

I remember Wes rapping during a walk to Penhorn Lake, astoundingly talented. Most any time I have spent around Wes has been memorable. A lot of joy and laughter and adventure. Some of the times I have laughed the hardest have been with Wes. This obituary is beautiful and it was very touching to read. I am glad to have known Wes. Wes was a best friend during a time of my life when I was otherwise very alone and I would be a lot worse off if not knowing him; he was very kind to me and very understanding and by being there for me, he helped me greatly. Sad to see him go. Lost a true friend.

When you and I worked together at the newspaper, Pat, I was treated to Wesley's artistic ability when he drew pictures on the blackboard in my office. He was very young, but his talent and attention to detail were already evident. I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved son. Sheila
