Obituary For Femmie Eichhorn (Schaaf)

Femmie Eichhorn (Schaaf), 96, of Windsor Nova Scotia passed away peacefully wrapped in the loving arms of Johan, her husband of 71 years on March 14, 2024.

Femmie was born to Elle and Jennigje Schaaf on January 27, 1928, in Rottum, Holland. Femmie and Johan moved to Canada on May 30, 1952, arriving in Waterville, New Brunswick, working on farms for the next seven years. In 1959 they purchased their own farm in Welsford NB. The farm was sold in 1974 then Femmie and Johan moved to Kemptville, Nova Scotia in 1975.

Femmie is remembered for her courage, sense of humor and sense of adventure. She raised a family and returned to school at age 50 to follow her dream of being a nurse. She was always up for an adventure; this took her and Johan into many locations across Canada.

Femmie was always involved in church and community and was a member of TOPS for many years.

Femmie had a passion for knitting and has won many prizes for her work, she created treasures for the family and donated hats and mittens to schools, hospitals and international drives.

Femmie is survived by Johan, her loving husband of 71 years, children Johan (Ginny), Jenny (Fred), Annie (Bill), Carl (Kelly), George (Lori), Catherine (George) and Kathy (Kurt), 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grand children and 1 great-great grand child. Femmie is also survived by her sister Grietje and many other family members in Holland.

Femmie was predeceased by her young son George Christian, her brothers Aunk, Gerret, Jan and Siep.

We would like to express out gratitude to the staff at the Windsor Hospital. They provided extraordinary care and showed compassion and kindness to Femmie and the entire family.

A funeral service will be held on April 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Windsor Baptist Church. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Windsor Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.

Debbie and I send our love to you John & family. Have many precious memories of you both; especially lunches at your parsonage or ours after Yar. Co. Ministerial meetings. Wish I could locate where your farm was in Welsford. I go golfing there in summer when we are at our trailer at Beulah Camp in Browns Flat. Would love to visit with you again sometime; let me know your home address. Congrats on your 71 yrs of marriage. Deb & I, at 52 yrs, have a long way to go to reach that milestone. You are in our thoughts & prayers. Sincerely Gary & Debbie Churchill from Miramichi, NB.
