Obituary For Gregory Neil Campbell

It is with deep sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Greg Campbell, age 76 of Glen Haven, on Monday January 19th, 2026.

Born in Halifax, Greg was the eldest son of the late Allan and Marie (Buchanan) Campbell. He is survived by his beloved wife (and debate partner) of 50 years, Barbara (Clarke); son Neil (Jaime); grandchildren Finn and Saylor; sisters Theresa (Dave), Kathy (Gary), and Anne (Alan); and many nieces and nephews.

Greg was a gifted storyteller with a sharp recall and a witty sense of humour, leaving us with many wonderful memories. He enjoyed meeting people and loved a good chat, which allowed him to make friends wherever he went. He loved the outdoors, saw beauty in the smallest details, and lived in the moment - part of his legacy is the lesson for us to do the same. Greg had a creative side and was a talented woodworker. He created and restored many beautiful pieces of furniture and took great pride in choosing the exact, perfect types of wood for each project. He excelled at photography and spent time practicing the guitar and oil painting.

Greg's career was spent at CTV, where he held positions behind the camera and behind the scenes. His favourite part of the job was the people he worked alongside. A close second was the annual Christmas Daddies Telethon.

Family was always Greg's priority, and his grandchildren were a highlight of his life. "Gramps" took every opportunity to support them and spent many hours watching dance recitals in a jampacked theatre, as well as freezing in cold hockey rinks across the HRM and beyond.

Greg was predeceased by his son Stephen; his parents Allan and Marie; and his brother Douglas.

There will be no visitation or service as per Greg's request to not make a fuss. The family will make arrangements to celebrate his life at a later date. Any donations may be made to Bridgeway Academy, 3 Valleyford Ave., Dartmouth, NS B2X 1W8 or via their website.

Greg Campbell welcomed me to ATV back in 1990 for my short time there . He was always someone who had a solution and confidence to solve any problem related to the broadcast industry. When I was offered a job at CBC he encouraged me to not pass up that opportunity which lasted over 30 years for me. When we crossed paths in the field of our careers he was always happy to offer a solution to any problem no matter if we were at a competing network. I know the folks at CBC who knew Greg, highly regarded his technical skills and friendly demeanour. Condolences to his family and many friends and colleagues at ATV - CTV. Steve Lawrence.

My condolences to Barb, Neil and family. Greg was a colleague, mentor and friend. Over the many years we worked together at ATV/CTV he was the guy we turned to for help. He always had a solution or work around for a technical issue at the station or in the field, he made things work. His mark on Television can't be overstated, his hands and finger prints were all over any big news event in Atlantic Canada. If there was a way and a will to be live he made it happen, our viewers were well served by Greg's abilities to make things happen. He also made us laugh, he would lend us his ear when we needed to talk about personal issues in our life. Greg lead by example, he was stern when he had to be, a smile and a grin most times, helpful and respectful all the time and we all knew he was there for us when we needed anything! For me personally i owe so much to him, he was an impossible act to follow, his shoes were the size of a circus clowns, his experience and knowledge was a result of actually doing it and teaching others along the way. Greg' will forever be remembered as a man who loved his family dearly and cared about his friends and colleagues.

I am very sorry to hear of Greg's passing. My sympathies to Barb and Neil and family. Greg was a friend since our school days and a colleague at ATV//CTV until we retired. Whenever a person chatted with Greg, he regularly spoke with love and pride about his family. He was a friend to all who he touched and always first in to help and cheerful doing it. I was often the beneficiary of his bright and creative mind when he offered a solution to a problem or advice on an issue. As mentioned by others Greg had a quick wit and occasionally used it to lower the temperature in times of stress. He was quick with a laugh. Greg was always respectful to others and only when a person was disrespectful of others would he show impatience and disapproval. Even then he would handle things diplomatically. Greg's personality was constant. Greg was a good, reliable, dependable, honest and talented man and he will be remembered that way by all who ever met and knew him.
