Obituary For James Lemuel Gray

James Lemuel (Jim, Gump, Mickey Mouse), Gray, 87, of Sambro, Nova Scotia, passed away on April 1st 2026 in Sambro, Nova Scotia.

A funeral service will be held at Sambro on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00pm. A reception will be held in the church hall following the service. Funeral services provided by Donald K. Walker.

James was born in Sambro to Francis and Audrey (Smith) Gray. He worked primarily as a general labourer for Ocean Contractors for many years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, tinkering in his shed, ATV-ing, music jams, camping, and gatherings with family and friends.

James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gale (Fizzard); sisters Evelyn (Gordon) Brown, Joyce Richardson; children Joy (Eugene) Acker, Todd; grandchildren Michael whom he raised as a son, Chalsa, Chad Acker, Evan, Tyler; great-grandchildren T.J. Brown, Matthew Brown, Charlie Acker; great-great-grandchild Xavier Mackenzie; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Maurice, Albert, Randel, Francis; sister Esther; sons Jimmie and Brian, lost at sea in 1988.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James United Church, 3811 Old Sambro Road, Sambro, NS, B3V 1G1. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Palliative Care Team at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Closing The Gap Healthcare Team, VON Nursing Team, and Gabriele Amorosi of Star Medical.

The family would like to thank everyone for the continued condolences and kind words.

    Big Jimmy had an amazing sense of humor, he was such a tease. He was a great father inlaw and for that i am grateful. Rest Easy now. To Gale and family, my heart is with you.
