Obituary For Myrtle Grace Warren (Baker)

Warren (Baker) Myrtle Grace 87 passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026. Born in June of 1938 in Jeddore, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Grace (Mitchell) Baker.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Myrtle. She was a woman with great strength, compassion and love. And to quote from the many messages being received she was a kind, gentle, loving soul.

Mom came to the city in the late 50s and started a job at Moir’s chocolates. Soon thereafter she met the love of her life Lawrence, who she married in 1957. They soon started a family and she became a full-time homemaker.

Once Myrtle’s children were grown, she went back to work holding various jobs at Empire Theaters, Zellers, McDonald’s, Stadacona canteen, dispatcher and driver for Satellite Taxi and finishing her career at McDougall group home where she enjoyed chatting with her clients and taking them on drives.

Mom’s hobbies included gardening, scrapbooking, baking, painting, long drives in the countryside and family history research spending many hours at the archives making sure she got all the details right. Mom also enjoyed a good laugh, playing cards with family and friends a house full of people for gatherings or just sitting around chatting. With mom fun was always had.

Moms greatest joy was her family with each child, grandchild, great grandchild and great-great grandchild. Her heart grew bigger and her love always shined through.

Mom is survived by her children Karen Verge, Sherri (Bob) Polstra, Stephen (Patricia) Warren, and daughter-in-law Kay Warren. Her sister Gladys Faulkner (Dave Jackson) and sister-in-law Audrey Baker both of West Jeddore. She is also survived by six grandchildren Bradley Verge, Matthew (Shaila) Verge, Kees and Ben Polstra, Brittany (Alex) Hart and Michael Warren. She also has four step grandchildren Susan and Barbara Seaboyer, Kristin and RJ Whitenect, four great grandchildren, Brianna and Mattie-Shea Verge, Harley and Remi Hart, six great step grandchildren Tyler McIsaac-Verge, Aiden Berriman-Ellis, Logan Seaboyer, Gavin and Brooklyn Porter and Maya Borden. One great-great step grandchild Lihanna Berriman.

As much as we may be grieving, know this, there is a great joyous reunion also happening, besides her parents, Grace and Aubrey Baker, waiting to greet her at heaven’s gate is her husband of 61 years Lawrence, her son Lonnie and son Laurie in infancy, daughter Kathern in infancy, grandson Craig Verge in infancy, her brothers Harris, Ervin, Ernest, Theodore and Roy, her sisters, Mary Hooley, Eunice Baker and Irene in infancy.

Service will be held on January 17, 2026, 2pm, at Vineyard Family Ministry Center 1129 Sackville Drive, Middle Sackville NS. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations made be made to Autism Nova Scotia.

We would like to than the staff of 7.2 at the Halifax Infirmary Hospital for the care and compassion that was given to mom and also a big thank you to her girls from Northwood for the excellent home care she received.

As we grieve Mom, know that we were thankful that she was there for our first breath and that we were blessed to be with her as she took the last.

Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Lawrence always welcomed into their home whenever we travelled to Nova Scotia, which was once a year!Uncle Lawrence used to get us all the lobster we wanted. Aunt Myrtle would take us around to all the sites to see.

When I think of Aunt Myrtle, I smile. I remember the visits in the 1970's all the way to Jeddore with a carload of kids. The odd visit into Sackville just to visit. The food. There was always food. It didn't matter who came to whom, we were always fed. She was the resident genealogist in our family. Aunt Myrtle had a whole collection of family information and stories. She knew the names, the dates and the connections within the family. Sometimes, there would be a story to go with the name. I learned a lot about her generation in these stories. People didn't have a whole lot, but they knew about love and caring for each other. They knew about hard work and fun. I loved her take on some of the stories, and usually, I had not heard them before she told me. Like the time Roy and Theodore offered her cigarette so she wouldn't tell on them to their mother. She knew she couldn't tell. We had a laugh when she was telling me this one. She showed me in her storytelling how interwoven their lives were with each other. and how these connections continued when they went out and had families of their own. I'm going to miss her. I treasure my relationship with her. Thank you, Aunt Myrtle. Thank you for everything. Love, Debbie, Paul and Johanna
