Obituary For Sarah Catherine Robar (Deveaux)
Sarah Catherine Robar, nee Deveaux, passed away April 11, 2026 at the age of 92, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was greatly comforted in her last days by the presence of her sister Jan, niece Tanya, son Leonard, grandson Greg, and daughter-in law MaryDale.
Kay, as she was known by friends, was born in PEI and moved to Montreal as a young adult where she met and married Ray O'Brien, another Islander. They had 6 children together, all of which were raised in Montreal. Kay enjoyed city life, the social aspect of going to the cinema and to various clubs to listen to music and dance. In later years, she and my father referred to them as dance halls. Kay was an avid film buff, especially when it came to old time movies. She was familiar with all the actors and their movies and loved to rewatch Humphrey Bogart, Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant movies, to name a few. I remember fondly hearing about and watching some, especially Humphrey Bogart ones, with her. I trace my enjoyment of old time movies back to those times. She had a fondness for BBQ chicken, the colour red, and watching CNN. My mother also enjoyed living in the maritimes, PEI and Nova Scotia. In later years, she figured it was time to come home, back to the Maritimes. She spent some time, a few years, in Charlottetown, PEI, before moving to Nova Scotia where she lived for twenty years, if not longer. She lived in Canning, Wolfville, Yarmouth and Dartmouth/Halifax.
She is survived by her sister Jan Deveaux, Dartmouth, her children, Leonard (MaryDale), Wolfville, Deborah, Montreal, Alan, Calgary, and David (Marilee), Keeseville, NY, grandchildren Greg O'Brien (Emily), Dylan O'Brien, Jason (Morgan) Carter, and Katie Lavigne-Beauchamp (Hugo), and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary (nee Conohan) Deveaux, brother Philip, sister Marjorie Taylor, sons Robert and Ronald (Cindy), granddaughter Christina O'Brien, and former spouse, Raymond O'Brien.
A celebration of Kay's life will be held on Sunday, June 28 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Canning Community Center in Canning, Nova Scotia. In Kay's honour, you are invited to wear the colour red, and enjoy some BBQ chicken.
Family flowers only, please.
Condolences
