Obituary For Francis Stanislaus Skerry

Skerry, Francis Stanislaus (Frank): 91 Halifax passed away January 28, 2022 at the QE11 hospital VG site, with family by his side.

He was the last surviving member of the union of James Walter and Mary Ellen (Monaghan) Skerry.

Raised in the North End of Halifax, as a young man Frank was a seaman on the lake boats that travelled the Great Lakes. He then moved on to be a representative for a confectionary company, delivering to corner stores and small grocery stores. Frank retired as an entrepreneur in the printing business, learning the trade and taking over the business that once belonged to his late brother. Many family members have memories of working part time at the shop, making it a true family business.

Frank was the person that everyone called in good times and bad, his mother used to say “call Frank he will know what to do”. Frank and Chris, his wife of 65 years created a home that not only included their two sons’ but became a safe haven for family and friends throughout the years. Theirs was a home of warmth, love, support and never-ending hospitality to all who entered.

Frank enjoyed a game of cards and with his quick mind was a worthy opponent into his 91st year. Win or lose there was a Werther’s candy for everyone at the end of a game.

He liked to keep busy and amazed everyone with all he continued to do daily. He will be missed beyond measure.

He is survived by son’s Patrick (Cindy), Anthony (Shelly); grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Anthony, Breana, Cassidy, Mason and Evan; great grandson Hunter, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary Christina (Chris) MacNeil; siblings; Joseph, Ellen, Frederick (Snook), James, Mary (Babe) and Barbara.

The family wishes to thank everyone that helped make Frank’s days a little easier and to the doctors and nurses that cared for him in his final days.

In keeping with Frank’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Internment will take place at a later date.

The world is a better place because you existed, We are better because you loved us!

It was a pleasure to have met and known Frank these past 4 years. He was charming, funny and just a lovely gentleman. He was a force to be reckoned with during the crib tournaments and we all looked forward to playing against formidable Frank and receiving our prize of a Werthers candy. You, kind sir, will be dearly missed. Sincere condolences and big hugs to all the family, xoxo.

Uncle Frank was always the first to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it. I will always cherish our time as kids looking forward to summers and visiting Frank and Chris. The only consolation is that he is now with Aunt Chris. Thinking of Pat, Tony, and their families in this time. Rest in peace Uncle Frank, you were one of a kind and will be truly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know you.

I feel like we have lost our anchor, the gravity that holds us all together. Frank taught us cousins to say naughty things and would cackle about it. He was never politically correct. He loved stirring the pot and then sitting back watching it all unfold. He loved us all fiercely and we loved him back. He made each of us feel special. My heart is sore. Pat and Tony and your families, my heart reaches out to yours. 💔

Even though it's been a month plus since his passing, reading his obit has brought out the tears again. Just last night, I thought "I can't believe he is gone". Who do we call now. His laugh, sarcasm and love for all of his "kids" was unmatched. There are no more words to say other than Rest in Peace Uncle Frank Sir, Grasshopper, Godfather... My heart still aches. Pat and Tony.. our hearts go out to you and your families. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand. Frank, Maria, Nicholas and Matthew Morash
