Obituaries

Jean Doherty, 82, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday March 15. She was the daughter of the late Gordon and Olive (Blakeney) Bellefontaine and was one of 11 children.

She was raised in the Catholic faith, attending St. Peter's Catholic School, and was a proud and devoted member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish for most of her life. Jean worked for the telephone company after graduating from school but will be remembered as the friendly face who greeted you in men’s wear at Penhorn Sears.

Jean belonged to many social clubs such as “Stitch and Bitch,” Rummoli, and curling with the Oilmen’s League. She had a very competitive nature when playing games and loved radio contests, winning many prizes over the years.

Jean enjoyed traveling, taking many trips south with friends, visiting Alaska and Ireland with her sisters, and spending winters in Florida with her husband.

Jean is predeceased by her brother, Roy Bellefontaine. She is survived by her husband, Frederick Doherty, her children, Kenneth (Susan), Joan (Tom), Patrick (Amanda), and Julie (Anthony). Jean will be remembered lovingly by her grandchildren, Michael, Nicolle, Tommy, Donovan, Cameron, Carly, Reilly, Olivia, Naomi, and great-grandchildren, Cooper and Lilly.

A service will take place at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Forest Hills on April 15 starting at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception.
