Obituary For Gerald "Mikey" M Bowser

Bowser, Gerald M. (Mikey) - 72, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 at the Victoria General hospital in Halifax after a lengthy & courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Gerald and Ada ( nee Tanner) Bowser. Mikey is survived by his brothers Wayne (Helen), Barry (Shirley), Sisters Geraldine, Crystal, Pat Tanner, several nieces and nephews & good friends.

Predeceased by his parents, brother Graham Bowser and sister Darlene Connor.

Mikey was employed with Canada Post and cherished his work and colleagues for 36 years. His commitment to his job earned him numerous awards and outstanding acknowledgements. Some of Mikey’s favourite things were Nascar, seafood, visiting his roots in Lunenburg and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He especially enjoyed working on cars which started at a young age when he would work on family & friends cars in Mulgrave Park. Mikey’s latest automotive love was his “blue baby” Pontiac that he purchased in 2006 and is still in pristine condition today. In Mikey’s younger years, he was a staple in the North end of Halifax and could be found cruising around on nice days in his yellow Chevelle with friends.

Mikey was always a wealth of information to his friends & family and could always tell you exactly what part you needed, where to get it and how much to pay for it. In his golden years, Mikey held Sunday afternoons sacred and was dedicated to Nascar racing and a meal usually caught off the wharf. His phone or his door would not be answered until the checkered flag.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no public visitation or service as per Mikey’s request.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia SPCA

My deepest condolences to Mikey's family. I knew Mikey from my teen years growing up in Mulgrave Park. He was the nicest guy and all the girls had a crush on him. Mikey always had a smile on his face and a kind word. I ran into Mikey many years later and he never changed...As sweet as ever! RIP Mikey.

My sincere condolences to the Bowser family for the passing of Mike ... I can honestly say, that Mike was one of the 'sweetest guys' I have ever met. We worked together at CANADA POST, and he was a joy to work with. I would see Mike at the grocery store 'once in a while', and we couldn't stop talking, catching up. There is no doubt Mike will be missed, he was 'sunshine' ... Rest easy Mike.

Mike I hope you are flying high in heaven and I know there are many loved ones who were there to greet you. We shared many laughs at Canada Post and you always had a candy, I guess that's why we called you our candy man. My deepest condolences to the Bowser family to which their uncle Gordon was my uncle as well. Christine Rose

Mikey as I sit here with my thoughts a smile forms on my face when I think about how funny it was that my neighbors thought you were my second husband Mr fix it, teaching me how to use the tools and the tricks of the trade. Barry would sit back and make fun of us or would critique our work lol. So many other stories but most of all, I am so grateful that you chose me to be the person to support you on your journey to fight cancer together until the very end. Now rest easy my friend and thanks for the lasting memories until we meet again.
