Obituary For Joseph "Joe" Camus

Joseph “Joe” Camus

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our husband and father, Joe Camus on Sunday February 12, 2023 at the VG hospital 7A palliative unit.

Born in Cheticamp on May 3, 1947, he was the son of Wilfred I and Margurite Marie (Larade) Camus.

He left Cheticamp at an early age to pursue his great passion - autobody repair and painting. He worked at several garages over the span of his career but had the greatest pride when he was painting a car for a family member. We always had the coolest looking bikes as kids!

He met his soul mate, Betty, during an afternoon drive to Peggy’s Cove. She may have had a boyfriend at the time, but that didn’t stop dad. Mom and Dad married the next year and had their first baby, Cathy, 2 years later. They completed their family with the birth of a second daughter, Brenda, 3 years later.

He lived in Harrietsfield for 49 years, where he made lifelong friends with some of the best neighbors a man could hope for. We know they will be there to support mom and for that, we are truly thankful.

He leaves behind to mourn, a large family. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Harnish), his daughters Cathy (Doug) and Brenda (PJ). He will be sorely missed by granddog Lilly and grandkitties Touca and Alex. We are sure he will stop by the Rainbow Bridge to pick up the other furry grandbabies who will be waiting for him.

Also left to mourn are his sisters, Louise, Betty (Roger) and Leona, as well as several brother and sister in laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Leonard, as well as several extended family members.

As per dad’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at a later date for family at the Admiral Rock Cemetery.

We wish to thank Dr. P Somers for his care of dad over the last few years as well as Cindy Bell and the staff of 7A who helped us these last few days to ensure Dad had a peaceful and dignified passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bide-Awhile Animal Shelter.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Aunt Betty, Brenda, and Cathy. Joe will be missed. Alex, Brady, and I were reminiscing on memories. Alex has fond memories of every time he came to visit Uncle Joe would give up his TV and watch hockey and wrestling with him because he knew how much he loved wrestling. Brady remembered that every time he would see Uncle Joe he would ask him if he scored any goals I'm hockey and would give him $5 if he did. To Brenda and Cathy.....losing a dad is such an enormous loss and a big hole in your life that only time and wonderful memories can fill. But those memories will make you smile more and more as time passes. To Betty....we love you so very much. Nothing we can say can make this any easier, only time can make it hurt a little less. Just know we love you ❤️ Love Alex, Brady, and Sandra
