She will be remembered by her grandchildren, Mary (children, Lilah, Austin, Logan, and Violet), Matthew (Ashley), Andrew, Amanda (Ryan, child Lincoln), Christina, and Jared, as well as Jonah and Simon (father, Liam King). Also surviving are her brothers, Jim O’Connor (Jelka), David O’Connor (Paulette), and sister Juliana Parsons (Donald) as well as her sisters-in-law, Athol Francis (David), Donna Jordan (Warren), Dorothy Lavergne, and brother-in-law, Chris Wickwire, and many nieces and nephews. St. Vincent University. She went on to teach 17 years with the Halifax School Board, taking many years off to raise her four children, retiring from teaching in 2008. Choral singing was a big part of Karen’s life. While living in Québec she belonged to the St. Lambert Choral Society and Choeur Classique de Montréal but spent 34 years with her beloved Chebucto Community Singers in Halifax. Karen was a founding member of Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Hammonds Plains. Her faith in her Saviour, Jesus Christ, and her family were the most important things in her life. Karen’s special place was the Northwest Arm where she spent her childhood summers at St. Mary’s Boat Club, and she particularly loved the Dingle. Favourite scriptures: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, John 14:1-7. Cremation has taken place. Invitation-only service with Rev. Denn Guptill presiding, April 26, 1pm. Andrea and I enjoyed Karen's warm smile and big hugs at church over the years. Karen was kind and welcoming to us when we began attending Cornerstone where she had attended for 26 years. Her kindness and generosity to one patron in particular was inspirational and expressed her great faithfulness to humanity, and the Lord, that she so loved. Our sympathies and prayers to all who will miss Karen. Jim & Andrea Beckingham

The last time I saw Karen ( and Janet ) was at the 50th Anniversary Reunion dance at St. Pat's High in Halifax. Until now, I didn't know how much she had influenced those around her. What a loss. My heartfelt condolences to cousins Juliana, Jimmie and David. Reggie Jones jjsempo@eastlink.ca

It is with sadness that we learned of Karen's passing. We have so many wonderful memories of our university years together. Karen was intelligent, caring, witty and always smiling. Karen, you and your brood walked into our small Baptist Church in St. Lambert Quebec in the mid 80's and our lives were never the same. Deep, endearing and eternal friendship grew and the warmth and depth of your love is warm in my heart and will always be there. You were such a strength, and showed me how to love Jesus in flesh and blood, not just in my spirit. Our biennial visits with you, Christine, Lynne and myself are ever present in my favourite memories of you... that and of course you and Christine belting out Roy Orbeson tunes on my front balcony at our "Annual Ladies Dinner"s. You are profoundly missed, but I am sure you are singing on high. inners

Sending healing light to all of Karen's family. I lived on Liverpool Street around the corner. We went to school together from primary and both ended up teaching. Lost touch as the years passed yet when ever we bumped into each other, it was like no time had passed. She is free from suffering. Many of us are left with precious memories of love and kindness.

I worked with Karen, a very competent teacher, at Holly Drive School. Some years later, as principal of Chebucto Heights School, I welcomed Karen as a volunteer who established and coordinated a Parent Volunteer Program during our inaugural year as an open area school. Her care and competence launched a program that grew to the inclusion of over 40 parents a day assisting teachers in the classrooms. Both Karen and Stan became family friends and Gail and I extend our sincere conlolences to the family.
