Obituary For Albert (Terry) Terrence Ball

Albert Terrance Ball (Terry) age 90, passed away at home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 in his 91st year. He was born in Chatham, ON, but made Nova Scotia home for the majority of his life.

Terry graduated from Queen’s University in 1956 and began his engineering career with Bailey Meter Co. He moved to Nova Scotia to work for the Dept of Development, where he met his wife of 29 years Catherine (Cathy) Olna Ball. Terry transitioned careers and entered the life insurance and financial planning sector in the early 1980’s. He had a positive impact on both brokers and clients; looking after his own clients until the age of 89.

Terry left a legacy of curiosity and the love of learning through his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours at the kitchen table helping his grandchildren with their math and science homework.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Oliver Jack and Sarah Mabel (Scott), as well as his sister Eleanor and finally his beloved wife, Catherine Olna (Martin). He is survived by son Michael; daughter Suzanne and son David (Sherri). He is also survived by his grandchildren; the light of his life, Katie, Meghan and Joshua.

He was a great son, husband, father and grandfather. If there was a Guinness world record for the most hours of CBC Radio listened to, he would be a solid contender. With that in mind, donations may be made to Friends of Canadian Broadcasting or a charity of your choice.

As per his wishes there will be no funeral but a private celebration of life at a later date.

Suzanne, Michael, David We are saddened to learn of your father's passing. Your Mom and dad were very good friends of us, and we share a lot of very good memories. He was always very interested in our family experiences on Sable Island during the 1970s. Both He and your Mom had a special interest in that mystical part of Nova Scotia, located out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! In his name, and memory, we are making a donation to the Friends of Sable Island Society, a charitable Society dedicated to promoting the fascinating history of the Island, including the shifting sands and hazards to shipping, and of course the history and challenges of the feral horse herds roaming the island. We will always remember Terry with the fondness memories, and trust that you all take comfort in knowing what a great man and father he was. God Bless, and take good care of one another. Heather and Terry Hennigar

I did not know Terry, but the stories I heard of him, made me love him. Like a fine full bodied complex wine, his vintage brought joy, love and many funny stories to my friends lives, (son and daughter in law) and so his light in their lives will be missed, but his stories I feel, will live on. They don't make them like Terry comes to mind...Sending his family and friends, big love at such a sad time.

My Uncle Terry was always very kind to Lynne and I and especially kind and generous to my mother. His Xmas gifts were always a highlight for her. We will never forget his generosity. Dave and Lynne.

I was shocked to read of Terry's passing. Our careers paralled for many years and he was a great support for me in the years I was with him at Foresight Financial. I recall a particularly interesting episode which evoked one of his boisterous laughs when I related it to him. I assisted his move from Hubbards back to Halifax and it ended up being my responsibility to transport his cat in my car. As soon as the car started to move, the cat started yowling. The only way I could get it to stop was to imitate its yowling. So, all the way to the new house in Clayton Park, the cat and I alternated our feline chorus. My sincere condolences to all the family. I know he will be greatly missed .

Terry and Cathy were our neighbours on Bobolink Street for many years and our friends for many more. Terry was a big man and a kind and good one, and he never missed our annual Christmas party. The pandemic kept our families apart, but the Christmas cards kept coming. Michael, Suzanne and David you were blessed with a wonderful father, and we were blessed with a wonderful neighbour and friend.

Terry and I came into the life insurance business around the same time so I have known him a long time. He was a very honourable man and I had great respect for him as a person and as a professional financial advisor. He was a great guy and it was an honour to have known him . Please accept my sincerest condolences . Roger Sinclair
