It is with deep sadness that we announce Peter’s sudden passing on June 22, 2026, at the age of 64. Peter was the youngest of twelve children born to Evelyn (Flemming) and James Mackey of Ketch Harbour, NS. Peter was predeceased by brothers, Ron and Bill, and sisters, Elaine Gallagher and Sandra Munroe, as well as two infant brothers. Peter is survived by his brother Thomas, and sisters, Myrna Williams, Lynn Giesbrecht, Evelyn Fisher and Valerie Comeau, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.

Peter was born and raised in beautiful Ketch Harbour and he lived his entire life there by the sea. His working career started with Nova Scotia Power and he remained with the company as it evolved and transitioned over the years until his retirement approximately ten years ago.

To say that Peter could fix anything was an understatement. He could take a car apart and put it back together, work on computers, electrical and heating systems, etc. and was always generous with his time and talent in helping anyone in need and would ask for nothing in return. No challenge was too big or small and he never walked away from an unfinished job.

Peter enjoyed life to the fullest and was always happy. He loved and was fascinated by nature whether on land or on the water. He loved being on the water in his or friends’ boats. He was an avid photographer and cherished old pictures of family and the picturesque Ketch Harbour area.

Peter’s humour, kindness and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
