At 79 years old, Susan Marie Bruce passed away June 23rd, 2026 at 3 Centre, Northwood, Halifax.

Susan had a remarkable memory and a great interest in people’s stories.

She will be remembered as a woman who welcomed all into her sphere with kindness and generosity. Susan read voraciously, was a fantastic cook who shared this love with her children, was a wicked, ruthless scrabble player and a consumer of current events.

She worked championing new immigrant rights with PEI’s Civil Liberties Association and was a business entrepreneur. Later in her career, she cared for the elderly.

She loved good company and was thankful for the care team at 3 Centre and 4 Manor.

Born in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the daughter of Harold Spurgeon Jenkins and Audrey Steeves (Dixon). She was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Cheryl (Jenkins) MacLean, her brother John Jenkins and sister Janis Jenkins. Her youngest sister, Cynthia Gass survives.

Susan’s memory will be cherished by her son James Bruce and spouse, Carmen Dockendorff; her daughter Michelle (Bruce) Desborough and spouse Mark Desborough and the father of her children, Jim Bruce.

Susan delighted in her grandchildren Carter Bruce and Erin Desborough. They brought her pride and great comfort.

At Susan's request there will be no visitation. A private family burial remembrance service will be conducted at a later date.
