Obituary For Alexander (Sandy) Hughie Joseph O'Handley

Alexander (Sandy) Hughie Joseph O’Handley, of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully September 15, 2023 in hospital at the age of 85 surrounded by family.

A loving father, husband and grandfather, Alex will be missed for his warm hugs, quick wit and humour, being a good listener, and unconditional love.

Born in Kentville, Alex was the son of Hugh and Muriel (nee Parker) O’Handley.

Alex spent much of his life outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, bird watching and simply enjoying nature.

He also loved to read and learn; and shared those passions with his loved ones.

A respected tradesman, electrician and entrepreneur, Alex wasn’t afraid to take on new challenges and opportunities. He worked hard and sacrificed to secure a better future for himself and his family.

Alex is survived by his children, Lorway/Pat George, Dale O’Handley, Darla (Kenny) Scott, Shawna O’Handley, Bonnie Theakston O’Handley, and Kevin (Alison) O’Handley; grandchildren, Michael (Tash) George, Jennifer (Chris) Norris, Patrick George, Corey O’Handley, Amanda (Derek) Feltmate, Alexander O’Handley, and Geri O’Handley; great grandchildren, Olivia George, Kora George, Ethan Carpenter, Grayson Cherrett, and Oliver Feltmate; brothers, Joseph Parker and Clifford O’Handley; sister, Georgina Geldert; and several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife Nina (nee Coldwell) with whom he loved to dance; parents, Hugh and Muriel O’Handley; and his sister Theresa Yoshinari.

Alex’s life will be celebrated privately by his immediate family and burial will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Coldbrook. We encourage those who also loved and cared for him to spend time with their family and friends and to raise a glass in his memory.

Sandy was such a happy soul! I have so many fond memories of all the cousins being together, there was never a dull moment! Sandy and my brother Bill, who passed on the 18th, were such good friends and so much alike. I know they are together laughing up a storm and talking about the good ole days in the valley! I am thinking of you all as we go through this sad time. Take comfort in all the memories 💔 Sharon Adams Gallant
