Obituary For Barbara Rose Jorden (Taylor)

Barbara Rose Jorden (nee Taylor)

89 years young - passed away April 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Barbara Rose Jorden, whose love of music and her beautiful singing voice will forever echo in our hearts. Whether on stage or at home in Dartmouth, NS, her voice brought joy, comfort, and connection to all who heard it; it is one of the many gifts we will carry with us always.

Mom performed with the Dartmouth Choral Society for 35 years, the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo choir for 17 years and several years with the Dalhousie University Chorale ('DalChorus'); she also studied year after year at the Berwick Music Camp, NS. We continue to be especially proud of her performance at Carnegie Hall in New York singing Mozart Requiem - what an amazing highlight of her singing career!

Mom lived a life rich with adventure, spending extended time in western Canada (Vancouver), Australia, England, Asia, and Europe, collecting stories wherever she went - and likely bending a few harmless rules along the way.

She was a devoted lover of cats and shared her life with many feline companions over the years, each one lucky to be adored by her.

Her mornings were consistent - she was rarely without her crossword puzzle, faithfully working through it with coffee in hand and determination in her eyes.

She had a gift for creating, from her cozy lopi sweaters to her charming apple dolls, each piece stitched with care.

In the last year of her life, living at Glasgow Hall, Dartmouth, NS she provided entertainment for her caregivers, keeping them on their toes with her wit and just enough sass to remind everyone she was in charge.

Mom had a playful, mischievous streak - she didn’t just walk through life, she gave it a kick in the butt!

Mom trained as a registered nurse in the late 1950s at the Saint John General Hospital, NB and devoted more than 40 years to caring for others at Dartmouth General Hospital. Even after long evening shifts, she tirelessly cared for her family - cooking, cleaning, mowing the lawn, and making sure her daughters never missed an activity. Through her actions, she made us feel that we were deeply loved and never alone.

As we say goodbye, we’d like to imagine her somewhere peaceful, with her guardian angel, perhaps tending to a lush garden, wearing one of her own sweaters, and singing out loud.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by her three daughters (Tanya, Heidi and Janeen), their father Eric and her three grandchildren (Maxwell, KaitLynn and Jonah).

Barbara is predeceased by her mother, Gertrude, as well as her aunts, Mary and Alice.

Forever loved, forever missed, and forever making life a little more interesting.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be a meaningful way to honor her life.
