Obituary For Barry David Inglis

Barry David Inglis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on Wednesday June 11th, 2025, Barry David Inglis chose to move on from this life to the next at 6pm at the Halifax Infirmary in Nova Scotia where he was surrounded by loving family and friends throughout his last moments and days. The room was mostly full of love, joy, appreciation, and gratitude, but of course also some melancholy and sadness as people bid their final farewells to a wonderful man who touched lives, and left memories everywhere he went during his 80 vibrant years of life.

Barry was born in April 1945, in Halifax Nova Scotia. He was the first-born child of William Palmer Inglis and Violet Inglis, a Canadian firefighter and English nurse who met in Portsmouth, England resisting the German bombing of England during World War 2. Barry grew up with 4 brothers, Gerry (Helena), Paul, Eric (both predeceased) & Brian (Darlene) and 3 sisters, Pamela Misiner (David), Christine Bawden & Sandra (predeceased). He also had 2 loving children, 3 wonderful grandchildren and many loving nieces & nephews whom he loved very much.

One lucky day in 1964 when Barry was 19 the best thing that would ever happen to him walked into his life. He met Frances Marie Flemming at the Saint Mary’s Boat Club, the woman who would be his wife, muse, and love of his life. They got married and had a beautiful daughter who they named Margaret. As a family they moved around from Saint John, to Toronto, to as far as Germany, and back to Canada to Montreal, where after 19 years of marriage they gave birth to their second child, their son Charles. Barry and Frances would often remark that they had two “only childs”. It was another unique aspect to their dynamic union.

Barry’s dedicated love for his wife and family inspired him throughout his lifetime as he pursued prolific professional success and wonderful personal achievements. Barry started out as a toy buyer for Sears and worked his way to up CEO of Singer Sewing Machines, where he managed the global brand with great success until he stepped down to return home to Nova Scotia, where he began operating his own international sales and consulting firm with his loving wife Frances until her death in 2013.

Despite losing the love of his life, Barry continued for 12 more years of laughter, love, and joy. He continued to enjoy his two favourite hobbies; basketball and motorcycles, right up until he physically couldn’t play or ride any longer. Nevertheless, he always remained steadfast and determined to return to the hardwood and play again one more time. Throughout this period of Barry’s life, he continued to make connections with people and establish strong new friendships, and in the process found new favourite passions like dancing and live music, a new lease on life if you will.

Barry David Inglis will continue to live on in the spirits of his children, Margaret and Charles. Both of whom embody the best characteristics of their loving father. In addition, Margaret (Eric Green) has three children; Megan, Riley, and Connor, each of whom carry distinct traits of their grandfather. Barry’s only granddaughter, Megan (Henk Fisher), is currently pregnant with his first great-grandchild, who will undoubtedly carry a piece of him with her as well throughout her lifetime. It is therefore evident that although Barry has passed, he hasn’t entirely left us, and the best aspects of him will inevitably continue.

The celebration of life for Barry Inglis will be held on July 16th at the Saraguay Club on Purcell’s Cove Road from 14-17h. Afterwards, at 18h30 his ashes will be laid to rest with his soulmate Frances at the Fairview Cemetery. Everyone is welcome because Barry had many friends, and he touched so many lives. Flowers are welcome but we encourage donations to the Halifax QEII foundation.

Margaret, Charles and Family: Our deepest condolences go out to you all at this time. You no doubt know that close friendships develop among children growing-up in small towns attending the same institutions. Often, adult acquaintances evolve into close friendships as the children of their respective families pursue comradeship. Our kinship with Barry (and Frances) evolved in the case of the latter - over what we now know and see as decades. Free spirit, life sharing experiences during travel, and small community living all made for a strong bond. While Bedford grew, so did our mutual family bond - as we celebrated together during Bedford Days and Canada Day celebrations. We will always cherish those moments but more so cherish Barry / Frances as 'conveyors of happiness'. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, Barry and Frances.
