Obituary For Beverley Jean Richard

Beverley Jean Richard, 75, of Dartmouth, N.S. passed away suddenly on December 31, 2025.

Born in April 1950 in Halifax to Ina M Richard (nee Fougere) and Edward J Richard, Beverley grew up in Halifax’s West End and attended St Agnes Elementary and then St. Patrick’s High School.

Bev will be most remembered for her sharp mind, her outgoing personality and especially her love and devotion to her thirteen nieces and nephews.

Bev was passionate about all things nautical and her flair for fashion and design evolved into her making a living designing and fabricating sea glass jewelry along with a thriving business of framed rope art.

Bev is survived by her six siblings, Jane Richard, Prospect Bay, Paul Richard (Joan), Halifax, Cindy Richard, Ottawa, Glenn Richard, Dartmouth, Lisa (Richard) Schokking (Ronald), Toronto and Bruce Richard (Lesa) Prospect Bay.

And also survived by her beloved nieces & nephews Carolyn, Steve and Andrea Skerry; Julie, Ted & Alex Richard; Christina Gryba; Neil & Evan Richard; Haily Schokking; Leah & Rene Richard.

Bev was extraordinarily generous - whether it was with her time, energy, or the spoils of a particularly lucrative sales trip south of the border. One of her favorite things to do after such an occasion was treat her nieces and nephews to dinner at a fancy steakhouse. She never had a budget for these dinners, just as she never had any limits when it came to her dedication to her family.

Beverley was the Richard family genealogist and was responsible for tracing our family roots back to the sixteenth century. She was also in the process of writing a book on Sable Island as our paternal Grandmother, Jean Richard, was one of only two people ever born on the Island’

Bev was predeceased by her parents Ina (2007) and Ted (2015) as well as her husband Jim Barkhouse (2024) and her nephew Marc Skerry (2025).

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her friend and neighbor, Irma Willis, for her kindness and support.

A celebration of life will be held on later date.

Any donations can be made to the Nova Scotia FoodBank.
