Saumure, Donald Joseph

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Joseph Saumure. Don passed away on the November 23, 2025 at the age of 87 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Don was born in Ottawa, Ontario in October of 1938. At the age of 17 he became a licensed carpenter and shortly after met the love of his life. Together, in 1963, they moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where they went on to raise two wonderful sons. Don worked as a mechanic with Scotia Chev Olds followed by Tim Flinn’s Esso Stations. For 29 years he worked as an Assistant Manager at Tilden Rent-a-Car until his retirement. Don will surely miss watching the Toronto Blue Jays, as he never missed a game no matter if they won or lost.

Don was predeceased by his parents Euclide and Rolande (Lemieux) Saumure, his sisters Helen, Louise and Clair, and his brother Richard. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife of 67 years, Joye; sons, John Saumure and Brad (Tammie) Saumure; brothers Robert (Lorraine) and Andre; his sister Anne (Jeff); grandchildren, Kyle (Amy), Brock (Mallory), Jarett (Maggie), Sara (Michael), Chelsie (Jonny), Samantha, Joe (Tyra), and Jessica (Chuma); great-grandchildren, Kevin, Owen, Alli, Nathan, Theo, Violet, Olive, and Josie.

The family would like to extend many thanks to staff and friends at Casino Nova Scotia for making Don feel welcomed and special over the years. Thank you to the nursing staff at the QEII Unit 4.1 who worked diligently to care for and keep company with our husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

There will be no service per Don’s request. He will be forever regarded as a good, strong family man and we will miss him and his smile each and every day. We love you, Don.
