Obituary For Donald William Morash

Donald William Morash passed away on April 2, 2025 at Ocean view Manor due to complications from dementia.

Dad is survived by his loving wife and best friend of nearly 60 years Diane (Tanner), daughter Tina, son-in-law John and beloved granddaughter Katelyn and favorite sidekick Shadow. He was predeceased by his parents Ivan and Rosalind Morash.

Dad was born and raised in Lunenburg Nova Scotia a place he loved so much. He attended Lunenburg Academy for most of his schooling, but graduated from Centre Consolidated High School in 1962.

Out of high school Dad joined the Bank of Montreal and worked in various locations in Atlantic Canada for 25 years and later worked with Investors Group Dartmouth until his retirement.

Besides his family, dad had two other loves people and sports. Dad would always be ready to chat and have the ability to always find someone he knew no matter where he went. However, even if he didn't know you that didn't stop him from talking and finding out about you and your day.

Dad was an avid sportsman, whether playing or watching his days always involved sports. He loved golf playing as often as he could( member of Grandview GCC), a curler( past president of the Dartmouth Curling Club) and a hockey fanatic. He could always be found cheering on his Halifax Mooseheads ( season ticket holder since 1996)and following the career of his favourite NHL player Sidney Crosby.

He also loved to watch the Toronto Blue Jays.

One of Dad's most proud sporting accomplishments was as a member of the Lunenburg Academy hockey team when they won the provincial hockey tournament in 1961.

Dad was a man of faith and a member of the Cole Harbour Woodside United Church family where he volunteered and served on many committees and councils.

Of all the roles that dad played in his life being a grandfather was the one he cherished the most. Dad was so proud of Katelyn. He loved to attend her swim meets, her soccer games and was proud of all her academic achievements. Despite his worsening dementia he still was able to see her graduate from high school last June and see her off to Acadia in September.

We would like to take a moment to thank the staff at Ocean view Manor in Eastern Passage, who treated Dad with care and respect, especially during his final days .

Funeral services and visitation will take place at Cole Harbour Woodside United Church . Visitation April 20th 7-9 pm and the funeral on April 21st 11 am.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, or any charity of your choice.

Don was such a gentle soul. I feel privileged to have known him and Diane since our school years. I regret that distance over the last few decades prevented a final hug goodbye. Diane I hope you are well and hope you can continue to remind us of the loving couple we admired for so long. Condolences to your family.

Mrs. Morash, Tina and family. Words can't express my feelings for you as you walk through this season of losing Donnie. He was the ultimate family man who put others first and always made you feel like you were the most important person in the world when you talked to him....and he was never shy of sharing a story as well...lol. Whether it was family camping trips, Moosehead games or golf outings Mr. Morash was always in the middle of the action. Oh and the stories of the mighty 1961 Lunenburg Academy Lions Provincial Championship in North Sydney will live on forever! But the best memory for me of Donnie was him reading the 23rd Psalm at my Dad's funeral...it was an honor to watch how deeply he cared and loved Dad....the feeling was definitely mutual. Many blessings to you all in the next season as you celebrate a life well lived. Praying for you all! Peter, Shelley, Charlotte and Andrew Crouse

Our sincere condolences to Diane and family on the loss of our dear friend Don. It was a privilege to have been a classmate of Don through the years at Lunenburg Academy. He was the epidemy of a nice guy. I have a humorous memory of him sharing his delight, upon getting his driver's license, of getting his Dad's 1958 Chevrolet up to a "whopping" 75 mph on the Blue Rocks straightaway. Also his pride of being a team member of the Lunenburg Academy hockey team that won the 1961 Provincial School Boys Championship was ever present. Don had many desirable attributes that his family and friends will not forget. We hope the thoughts and condolences from so many of Don's friends will be a comfort to Diane and family in this time of grief and loss. Glenn and Judy Conrad

So thankful for Don's life. Rick and I were privileged to be life long friends of his, beginning in Primary at Lunenburg Academy. We found him to be loyal, kind and loved to have fun. Whether, we were living in Lunenburg, in different provinces or down the street, we always stayed connected. Remembering how he organized Class of '66 Reunions for years, and that L.A. Sports Reunion was so enjoyed. Indeed he was a loyal friend, faithful husband, very proud father and grandfather. We will miss him. Sending my love to Diane, Tina, John and Katelyn. May you know the Lord's peace, strength and love as you navigate these challenging days. Marion

I had the pleasure of working with Don at BMO for 22 years starting when he was Manager at Kentville and I was Asst Mgr at Wolfville. We played a few games at Ken-Wo. We continued our friendship at the Mooseheads games and it was always great to have a chat between periods. Don was a wonderful gentleman who I'm was lucky to call a friend.
