Obituary For Frederick Stewart Lordly
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Stewart Lordly on August 13, 2023. Fred had a full and successful life. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George Reading Lordly and Daphne Stewart (Smith) Lordly. He attended Kings College School in Windsor, NS where he was ‘head boy’ and captain of the hockey and rugby teams. Most importantly, he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Mary Ann. The two settled in Halifax where Fred had an accomplished career in the family lumber business located on the waterfront. He had many skills in gardening, plumbing, electrical, arts and crafts, and building anything, including barns, treehouses, play sets, and rabbit hutches. The greatest joy of Fred’s life was being a dedicated and supportive father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He raised three strong daughters that adored him and were by his side until the very end. Some of our best memories with Fred took place at camp; skating, swimming, fishing, catching eels, riding horses, jumping off his homemade wharf, going for boat rides to ’the bluff’, boiling corn on the cob, or enjoying a special breakfast he cooked with love. Fred was always at the center of family holidays, keeping the fire going for the entirety of Christmas and sharing his Birthday with Thanksgiving dinner. Fred’s good nature and generosity gained the devotion of several dogs in his life. He will be sorely missed by his best girl, Briar. Fred was a good friend and made lifelong connections with people he met throughout his life. Fred had a kind and gentle heart, he was hardworking, humble, charming, and stood up for what he believed in. He liked to keep things simple and make people smile. While life will not be the same for his daughters Daphne (Alex Mielnik), Jane (the late Shaun Clarke) and Sara Lordly, grandsons Jamie, Noah, Aaron and Logan Mielnik, granddaughters Jean and Grace Clarke and great grandson Ethan Mielnik, he has left us with unforgettable memories and lessons. Predeceased by wife, Mary Ann Duff (Lohnes) Lordly; sisters, Joy and Margaret and infant sister Jane. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (Nova Scotia) (https://crohnsandcolitis.ca/Location/Maritimes/Halifax).
Private family service will be held at a later date. Online condolences can be made by visiting: https://www.donaldkwalker.ca
