Obituaries

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Grant Stuart Rust on September 12th, 2025 at the Victoria General, surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Grant is survived by his wife Julia, sons Andrew (Melissa) and Matthew ( Chanel), and granddaughters Simone and Eloise.

Grant served 34 years in the Canadian Armed Forces where he spent time in various highland regiments and the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He made many friends, had lasting adventures and memories.

Grant joined the Masons in 1986 in Montreal and continued to dedicate his time while in Ottawa and again after the family’s move to Halifax, serving in St Andrew’s Lodge # 1. Grant was passionate about everything Scottish and belonged to Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Royal Order of Scotland. Grant belonged to The Clan Stewart Society of Nova Scotia and served as past president. Grant was devoted to his family and community of Masons and Clan Stewart Society.

A memorial service will take place on Friday September 26th, 2025 at 12pm in the FreeMasons Hall, 165 Coronation Avenue.
