Obituary For Helen Meata Martin

With heavy hearts we the family are heartbroken to announce the passing of Helen (Meata) Martin On Sunday October 15, 2023 at the VG Hospital surrounded by loving family. Born on May 16, 1946 in Belleoram Newfoundland, where she later moved to Ontario to be with family. She later than moved to Halifax where she eventually met her late husband Lloyd. Meata was full of life, she loved life to the fullest. She loved spending time at home with her husband where they would either sit and play a good game of crib together or just sit and take in a Blue Jays game. She made her husband into a Blue jays fan as well and loved watching the games together or even sitting at the dingle sipping coffee and listening to the game on the radio. They were glued to the hip, you did not see one without the other. She loved going to the seniors dances at the Spryfield Legion where she would kick up her heels on the dancefloor with her husband. She was also very involved with this event as she sat on the executive at the Spryfield Legion and always helped out on senior days making sandwiches for all to enjoy Meata loved fishing, often found with her husband at the dingle either fishing together or she just sitting there watching him fish. They often travelled around from spot to spot at times with her step son Lloyd trying to find the best spots to fish Mackerel . Meata loved attending local wrestling shows that her other stepson Chuck owned and operated where she was also very involved with this organization and helping her stepson. She also loved watching the wrestling on TV where she would scare the pants off anyone sitting by her when she yelled out in excitement as if she was there in person. In the summer, Meata loved spending time on her husband’s boat with him and her stepson Lloyd fishing and taking in the beauty of the Halifax harbour. Meata loved her family that lived away and often talked about her family and grandchildren upon her return, telling stories while we all sat and listened while playing bingo. Bingo was other thing Meata loved. After the passing of her husband , Meata spent a lot of time with her stepson Chuck, travelling around from bingo hall to bingo hall and also took trips together to New Brunswick to go on the bingo tours. Meata was truly devoted to her daughter Marg and cared for her and looked after her every need in the last few years of her life until her passing. Meata leaves behind her loving family. Meata lived in Oshawa while she helped raise Sara Pfaff and she was mother in law to my brother Stephen. I knew Meata in those years. I can say from first hand experience she was the salt of the earth. A truly beautiful loving soul full of life and goodness. I'm sad to hear she's gone. Brian Pfaff
