Condolences to Faith and Family: Jack was a great teacher and even a greater human being. He was a true person of principle - quiet when quiet was needed, a loud voice when demanded. He spoke out forcibly when he saw injustice, even when others would not, but was always silently respected. When in Cape Breton, I always veer off the Cabot Trail and travel through New Haven Road and Neil's Harbour, and think of Jack Hatcher and Herb Seymour. He will be missed by many. God Bless. Ed Kelly

Jack was my cousin. We had many great times together growing up in New Haven. Saturday nights at his home saw a group of friends watching hockey games and playing cards, and enjoying Aunt Marj's donuts. We both went on to teaching careers and raising families. Sincere condolences to all the family. Judy Sams Bonnell

Such heartbreaking news...I first met Jack when he came to get me at my dorm when Lindsay & Erna decided to move their wedding day up by a week! He was so like his father with that gentle but firm manner but full of 'spit & vinegar' when the occasion called for it! Faith, Andrea, John, Dianne...keep those amazing memories of your special times with Jack close to your heart as you deal with your tragic loss.
- Lynn Doucette
Well brother Jack I will miss you dearly. I will never forget our card games and hunting trips. Put in a good word for me up there. RIP brother

My condolences to Jack's family. I had the pleasure of playing both hockey and golf with Jack on a regular basis during the past several years. He was a great competitor! One day, while having a beer, he confided that one of his best moves was his decision to coach the girl's soccer team. He loved that phase of his sporting career and was proud to point out young ladies whom he had coached along the way. Heaven's hockey team just got a major upgrade.

Faith so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing, so enjoyed spending time with Jack bowling and golfing on Thursdays. I was looking forward to playing hockey together again this year . Faith, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time. My mother loved both of you and would be very sad today. I think of Jack every time I play the Digby golf course which we played together with my mother. I played there this summer and relayed a story to my playing partner about the day we played Digby years ago. So Jack's memory never ends as long as I can tell that story about him. I wish you the best and hope family, friends, and time can help ease the sting of this profound loss.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. Playing hockey at King's, hunting deer at Neil's Harbour, or exchanging stories at King's, Jack was one of the finest people I have ever met...truly genuine!

Mr. Hatcher and I always had a special relationship. He always talked to me in the foyer at school upon my arrival and truly listened to me when I was having problems. He was an amazing teacher and even better soccer coach. Winning for Jack is what drove me to play my best every game. We stayed in contact throughout the years via email. He surprised me once by popping into my workplace to say hello. I will never forget that. I am so sorry to his family for their loss. He was a great man.

Mr. Hatcher was my Grade 9 math teacher in 1972-1973 at Chester Municipal High School - the year we were introduced to algebra. For the longest time I didn't understand algebra, until 1 day it all came together for me. By the time we had to write the exam at the end of the school year I was ready, or so I thought. I know I received a very high mark on my exam, mid-90's or higher, but Mr. Hatcher deducted 1 point because I didn't spell my name correctly. He said I dropped the 'r' on Heather. I argued that I was practicing my 'signature' for the future, his response: "Good argument, nice try, but I'm not giving you the point back." I was really mad, but I learned valuable life lessons from Mr. Hatcher that day: Pay attention to details and don't be sloppy with your name. May he rest in peace.
- Heather Brooker
What a shock! My deepest condolences to the whole family. Jackie and I played on the same line for several years on the Kings hockey. He was not the biggest or the strongest but likely the toughest. Unforgettable memories of piles of lobster and sword fishing in Neils Harbour. Rest in peace my friend.
- Andy Sherwood
So sorry to hear of Jack's passing. He was Mr. Hatcher in the classroom & Happy Jack on the soccer field. I can still see him pacing along the sidelines during a tight game. He was one of those teachers/coach you'll never forget. It was obvious that he enjoyed what he was doing. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Condolences to the family of the late Jack Hatcher. Jackie and I were friends when we grew up in Neil's Harbour and New Haven. I was saddened today when I read his obituary in the newspaper. He was a great man and I appreciated his friendship in my younger days. We both left Cape Breton and moved to the South Shore to further educate the mainlanders. Rest in peace, my friend!!

Faith and family; We are so sorry to hear about Jacks' passing. He was an all round great guy. When in school I know Kirk said Jack was the only reason he stayed as long as he did. When I heard about Jack, the first thought that came to mind was "well he was doing what he loved". It was my privilege to teach with the only other Caper on staff at the time. Of all things he loved his family most. To you Faith, and your kids, remember the good times, and God Bless.

Mr. Hatcher was one of the best teachers I had in high school. I was lucky to have 3 wonderful years of his math knowledge. He was certainly one of a kind.
Sending our sincere condolences to Mr. Hatcher's family and friends. I had Mr. Hatcher for grade 8 and 9 math and he was an amazing teacher and made math fun. The most recent memory I have of him is when I seen him at a store about 2 to 3 weeks ago and we had a great conversation. I was impressed how he remembered me after 36 years. Please know I appreciated him and respected him as a person and a awesome teacher. Hugs to all.
