Obituary For Jeannette Loretta Richard

It is with heavy but accepting hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jeannine Richard of Halifax, NS on May 9th, 2025, at Maplestone Enhanced Care.

She was surrounded by family during her last moments on earth before embarking on her journey to meet those that had passed before her.

Jeannine was the daughter of Arthur and Stella (Poirier) Leger of Sunny Brae, NB.

She is survived by her four children, Sandy Richard (Leonard Paunins), Kim Hebert (Paul), Terry Richard and Eric Richard (Krista Ginn); grandchildren Joshua Richard, Erika Hebert (Jesse DeWolfe) and Alex Hebert (Aaron Van Nostrand) and her great-granddaughter Lennea McCavour-Richard; her sisters Theresa O’ Hanley of Calgary, AB and Annette Roy (Bunny) of Riverview, NB; her sister in-laws Helen Richard and Holly Bastarache of Dieppe, NB. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, J.A.(Rick) Richard, her father and mother, her brother Sonny Leger, her sisters Cecil (Gallagher), Marie (Knox) and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald).

Jeannine enriched the lives and hearts of many on her path that took her from the small town of Sunny Brae to the Maggies in the middle of the St Lawrence, to the rocky shores of Newfoundland and to her final home of Nova Scotia. In each of these places she laid the foundation for her legacy as a kindhearted, fun-loving and caring woman. As a wife, she was the cornerstone of the Family, supporting the endeavors of her husband Rick as they built a future for their family and business. She was the unsung hero, like many women were in the Aviation Industry, always there to face every challenge of the 60s and 70s in rural Atlantic Canada.

She was the matriarch of the family, devoted to raising her children in an environment of inclusion and love, ensuring they carried the same teachings forward. This is especially characterized by her daughter Terry who will forever carry that light in her heart.

She was well read and well-versed, always able to carry a conversation on just about any subject, including sports…football, figure skating, curling and golf being amongst her favorites.

No one could set a table or host a dinner party like Jeannine. Her joy was feeding others, preparing favorite dishes like Fried Chicken, Prime Rib and homemade Spaghetti sauce.

She was a founding member of the FWWM, taking immense pleasure from the friendships and comradery on their many adventures. Her continued presence will be felt through her spirit and energy that she leaves to each one of them to flourish and share with others.

Jeannine instilled in her family a deep love of the shore, especially in Caissie Cape, NB, establishing a close bond that will forever bind us.

The Family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude, love and condolences to the Maplestone Enhanced Care Facility with special mention to the Hale Court Care-giving Team and the support staff who assisted and cared for Jeannine during her time there. Your compassion and kindness during her final days along with your accommodation for the Family were appreciated to a level that cannot be expressed with enough words.

There will be a celebration of life at a yet to be announced future date. Jeannine’s life was dedicated to furthering the cause of disabled persons. If you would like to donate in her memory, you may do so to Easter Seals, which supports many programs for persons with disabilities including Camp Tidnish.
