Obituary For Julia Fay Smith (Millard)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Julia Fay (Millard) Smith on Sept. 11, 2025, at the age of 65.
She passed peacefully at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre surrounded by her loved ones.
Julia worked as a PCW in her earlier years at Braeside Manor in Middle Musquodoboit before becoming a stay at home mom. She loved to bake and was well known for her chocolate chip cookies and salt water taffy. Pulling the taffy until it was ready to be cut in to bite size candies was her favourite part to do with her kids, nieces and all their friends. Her favourite line was "If you're going to chew it, I'm not responsible for any lost fillings or paying any dentist bills!"
Julia loved going for drives especially with her late husband Richard as he always managed to get her lost. She loved the beaches and fall was her favourite time of year with all the beautiful leaves. This led up to her favourite holiday; Christmas. Although she was not a fan of winter, she loved the lights at Christmastime. One of her favourite memories of Christmas was the year she convinced her husband and daughters going into the woods to cut their own tree would be a great family experience. Although they all agreed and thought it might be fun the cold and wetness from the deep snow soon turned that excitement into asking "Who's idea was this anyway?"
Julia had so much heart and love to give especially to her three daughters and nine grandchildren who will miss her beyond words but who know she is now at peace.
Julia is survived by her daughters Sonya Veno (Shaun Kean), Michelle Smith (Matt Dean) and Nina Garron (Mark Garron), siblings April Millard, Sheila Johnson, Valerie Keating, Cindy Craig, Starlene Christmas and Rubin Millard, grandchildren Jaslynn Conley, Dakota Smith (Emma Mallinson), Kendall Veno, Tanner Dean, Hunter Dean, Aislynn Garron, Cassidy Garron, Braydon Garron and Ceilidh Garron and many nieces and nephews.
Julia was predeceased by her husband of 39 years Richard Smith, parents Geraldine Estes and Fredrick Millard, siblings Brenda Myers, Sharon Levangie, Melody Hennigar, Fred Millard and Grace Cummings.
The family would like to thank the VON for all of their help, love and support over the last few years. We truly appreciate everything you did for our mom.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Julia would like donations to be made to any charity that helps with finding a cure for cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.
