Obituary For June Christine Young

In Loving Memory of June Christine Young

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of June Christine Young, age 74, on November 20, 2025

A life filled with kindness, faith and love. Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—her love shaped us, and her memory will guide us always. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, June was the cherished daughter of Shirley and Robert Ritchie and grew up in Dartmouth, where she developed the warmth, generosity, and deep sense of community that guided her throughout her life.

A Life Well Lived

June built a long and meaningful career, dedicating 36 years to the Nova Scotia Power Company. Outside of work, she found joy in traveling—especially her memorable trips through England, Ireland, and Scotland—and in the simple pleasures of curling leagues, bowling for more than 25 years, spending quality time with her family and gathering with her close friends for their weekly Monday coffee group. June was a person of unwavering faith and a devoted member of her church. Her kind spirit, steady compassion, and willingness to help others touched countless lives within her community. An animal lover at heart, June was especially fond of cats and often opened her home to cats in need, becoming a trusted and loving caregiver to many rescues.

Family Above All

June was a proud and loving mother to her son, Robert Young; grandmother to Shequera Redmond (Samuel Lamarre); and great-grandmother to Jaxson Lamarre, and a devoted and loving sister to Marion Ritchie (Robert Stowe). Her family was her greatest joy, and she celebrated every moment with them and will be deeply missed by her extended family, friends, church family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. June was predeceased by her parents, Shirley and Robert Ritchie, and her brother Dale Ritchie.

I met June at our workplace (NSPC) many years ago. She had such a sweet, warm personality and was always ready to help those in need or share a laugh. We had some fun times together, especially after retirement – lots of laughs at curling, linedancing, excursions, or just having tea and chatting - we could chat for hours. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and animals, actively trying to help stray/feral cats . Will miss her - gone much too soon. Heartfelt condolences to her family.

I am sending heartfelt sympathy to June's family and friends. I know June through our Monday coffee group, although I am relatively new. June's warmth and friendliness were apparent from our first meeting, and I soon learned of her adored and adoring family. Rob, and Shakira and Sam were foremost in her thoughts, and when little Jaxson arrived, June was so happy! May June's love continue to surround, guide, and comfort you in the future.
