Obituary For Marie "Essie" Ethel Butler

Butler, Marie Ethel - Age 71, passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2024 at her Lower Sackville home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, and raised in Ship Harbour, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Josephine (Deveau) Mason.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Graham Butler, son Ryan (Shelly) and daughter Tara (Rob); grandchildren Cole, Lawson and Milena; sisters Carole (Dave), Sandra, Sharon (Wayne) and Michelle (Carl), Sister in-law Gloria, Brother in-law Don, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Josephine, her sister Kathy, and her daughter Krista.

Essie enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandkids who she doted on. She loved to swim and was often inviting friends and neighbors over to swim in the pool. She loved playing cards (especially crib), fishing and baseball.

The family wishes to thank everyone who has helped Essie during her illness – the Palliative Care team at Halifax QEII, ParaMed, and her family and friends.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
