Obituary For Mary Joyce Kiley

Joyce passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on November 25th at Glasgow Hall, Parkland in Dartmouth. A great fan of Christmas, she recently listened to the Macy’s Parade in the company of family and friends, listened to her twenty-four Christmas Music and enjoyed having her Christmas tree up 365 days a year.

Joyce was born in Halifax to Herbert Reay Bridger and Hannah Frances O'Neill Bridger. She was a graduate of the Halifax Infirmary School of Nursing. Joyce worked last at the Nova Scotia Hospital and Halifax County Rehabilitation Centre.

She was married to Kenneth William Kiley in 1956 in Ketch Harbour. She then became a military wife as the family moved about with the RCAF. The extended posting at CFB Greenwood was one of her favourites, where she was able to work at the library. The children especially enjoyed reading all the books.

Joyce was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Ken, and son Anthony (Tony) Kiley. She is survived by her siblings Peggy and Florie; and her daughter Beth, son Patrick (Heather), and son Colin (Nancy). She was a proud Grand-mere to Lauren Grace (Jon), Megan (Rowan), and Ryan. Joyce was especially thrilled to be a Great Grand-mere to Kinley, Ashley, Natasha, Joshua, Isaac, and Hazel. Her walls were covered with pictures of her babies.

Many critters, cats and dogs were part of the family household. Joyce was very attached to her last cat Mousie,18 years old and all her dogs named Brutie.

Special thanks to extended family and friends for visiting and calling. She loved the caring and compassionate staff and special friends at Glasgow Hall, Parkland at the Lakes. Joyce loved talking to all the Nursing students, no doubt telling them tall tales of nursing in the dark ages.

A service of remembrance for both Joyce and her son Tony will be held next summer. Donations to her favourite charities IWK, Chalice, or the SPCA in her memory would be appreciated.

Her last words were to be good and she would meet us all at the train station.

I will miss her. She first joined the Kiley family when I was a young teenager. I have fun memories of her in those days. Love, Mary Kiley
