Obituaries

It is with broken hearts we announce that Reuben “Cedric” Richard, age 81 passed away peacefully on Friday December 26, 2025. Cedric was the only child of Vessie and Mary (Richard) Richard of Charlos Cove, Guysborough County NS. Born and raised in Charlos Cove he moved to HRM in the ‘70s and eventually made his home in Cole Harbour.

Cedric is survived by his wife Gloria (Couturier) Richard, his daughters Andrea (Marc Perry) Charlottetown PE; Laura Richard (Calgary AB), granddaughters Marcayha Perry, Hannah Humphries and grandson Mason Perry. He also leaves two great granddaughters, Juliette and Fiona.

Cedric was a kind and caring husband, father, grandfather, cousin, friend and colleague. He loved his work as a courier for Purolator having worked mostly in old Burnside for 33 years, all of which was done with a 33 year safe driving record. Prior to moving to Purolator, Cedric also worked as a steward on Via Rail from Halifax to Montreal and as a Houseman for the Dartmouth Holiday Inn. He also enjoyed carpentry and liked to point out the houses and verandahs he built in HRM.

Cedric’s love of music led him to purchase a few instruments, one of which produced a few shrill notes from time to time. He loved kitchen parties with cousins Bruce, Oland and the gang. He loved his summers in “the Cove” working on his homestead, attending “his” Church, walking on the beach at Tor Bay and spending time with his family.

Cedric was a very Faithful Catholic and loved the Latin Mass. It was his faith that saw him through the past few years.

The family would like to thank this staff of Ocean View and Opal Ridge for taking care of Cedric; the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital and his cousins and friends who visited him. We would also like to say thank you for the many phone calls, drop ins, cards, flowers and food shared with us.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church at a later date.
